At first I thought it was because I had little experience. So I got more. Then I thought it was because I needed to lose weight. So I lost it. Then I thought, maybe I needed to train harder, so, harder I trained. And now, having exhausted all other possible explanations, I am forced to consider that perhaps I'm just inadvertently attracting obstacles by fearing they'll appear.

When I was five my mother had very long, dark hair; down to her waist. She always wore it in a bun during the day to keep it out of her way, but as she ran along side me telling me that when I got the most scared I should just keep pedaling, a few strands came loose and blew behind her.
