2XU Compression Calf Guards Review: Fashion faux pas, but do they work?

by Steve Larsen on March 10th, 2009
I recently reviewed 2XU compression tights and I was impressed by what I found. It is now my goal to try as many compression products as possible to try and determine which if any may offer some training or race benefit.

2XU Compression Tights

Throughout the past twenty five years of my competitive career I can associate certain songs, foods or things with certain races. For example, 1989 Jr. Worlds in Bergamo = U2 Joshua Tree, 1994 Giro di Lombardia = Risotto con funghi porcini at Villa Fleuri in Como. Or finally, 2008 Kona Ironman World Championships = COMPRESSION GEAR!

compression tights and tops

Three questions related to compression wear: 1. I see that 2xu has tops. Why would I need the top? What am I working so hard in my arms that requires a top-or am I missing the point? 2. When someone wears them in a triathlon race, are they swimming in them? (OK...that is truly a dumb question) 3. I assume the tights are for cool weather running?

2XU Compression Gear

Excuse my ignorance on this but it is better to ask something stupid and know the answer than to not ask and never really know. Flipping through Triathlete magazine I saw an ad with Jone using compression gear from 2XU. I went to their web site and saw that they have tights, shorts, and calf guards. My question is when do you use this stuff ? Racing, Training, Resting, Recovering ? Sleeping ? My Blog http://cebarnes.com
