Has anyone done the 70.3 in Newfoundland? I was wondering if anyone had any information on this race as far as conditions and how the different portions of the race were, hilly, flat, wavy?
Thanks!

Hi deann

I'm biased, since I'm from Pasadena, NL and the transition area is about 1.5 km from my front door..

This year was first year for the race, and it was amazing. My first half, but after doing it definately not my last.

I'd be more than happy to answer anything you want to know about the course, area, people, places, and on and on. Let me know...

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for getting back to me-was curious about the swim-is it choppy? Also how's the bike ride-hilly? I've heard that the weather there can change dramatically -so was curious about that as well.

Swim on race morning this year was a bit choppy, but not bad. Generally, the lake is very calm early in the morning during the summer months, and then during the day picks up a bit as the winds do. This year, the first couple of weeks of July were very nice and low-no winds, lake was calm as glass every morning. But we got some winds during race week and it was a little more bouncy than normal. Was still just chop though... not "waves".

Bike ride is excellent, great course and very scenic. The elevation map on the website really helps show the ride.

It's really a rolling hills type of ride, with one mother of a hill at the 1/2 way point of each lap. It's definately a lot funner coming down than going up. A challange, but very do-able.

The old saying here is "if you don't like the weather... wait 10 minutes".... it does change on a dime, but that being said summer months are generally warm and moderate humidity. It's not uncommon for high 20's, into the low 30's some days in the valley here on west coast (where race is held, right up through the valley). Race week this year was hot and humid right up until the Friday before race day, then it broke and we had about 16-20 degrees on race day, with a little light rain fall towards end of run.

I'd encourage anyone and everyone to race this one, the organizers have many years of ITU races behind them, know their stuff and how to put off a show.

Anything else, drop me a note.

Kevin
