This past weekend I raced FL 70.3 (race report to come) and I pushed hard the entire race. On the bike I noticed some pain on the outside of my right foot, opposite the arch, and then didn't notice it again till after the race. A week later I am limping around because I can't put any prssure on that foot. I have also noticed that the more supportive shoe I wear, the more it hurts. Flip-flops feel the best, barefoot is better, but it still hurts right at the point where my outside footprint meets my heel. Any ideas?

Do a little research on plantar fasciitis to see if the description fits your aches and pains. Some of the causes are increased mileage, pushing to hard or even a new pair of shoes that aren't quite right for your style of running.

Take some time off from running, ice it, rest it and see how it goes. It might be worth a trip to the doc.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.

I had a bout with peroneal tendonitis - pain on the outside edge of foot from mid-foot to below the ankle - not sure if this is what you are experiencing or not. I took a few weeks off from running and got physical therapy (e-stim: which really helped a lot). Good luck.

Rolling your foot on a frozen orange juice containter helps, as does continual stretching and ibuprofin.
If you continue limping, I recommend seeing a podiatrist.

I had plantar faciitis, and ended up getting new orthotics. Cortesone shots (ouch) in the heel only last about 3 weeks, but they can help relieve the pain while you heal.

I got plantar faciitis from too many hill workouts coupled with insufficient stretching and old running shoes. I had to stop running for 7 weeks because I re-tore the ligaments by trying to run while injured. Biking & swimming were fine. As tough as it is, take the time off to heal the right way!
