I successfully got my worse time ever in a sprint, when I feel like I am definately in the best shape I have ever been in.

Now that I have gotten that out lets discuss my excuses (I know, an excuse is like...)

1.Water temp was 65, air temp was 56
2. I have only been training long (read aerobic) and maybe I wasn't ready for this intensity?

I didn't have a wet suit and it was an in-water start. 750 meters in around 15 min, which is kinda slow for me. I was cold. Shivering. major shrinkage. When I got out of the water I was pretty dizzy, I could barely run upright to the transition area, and I knew from that point on this wasn't going to be a PR.

When I got on the bike I had a stomach ache and a little bit of blurred vision, and my jaw cramped from the shivering. I could only take down 1/2 bottle of water, but I still managed to hold just over 20 mph for a rolling course. I was kind of happy about that.

When I hit the run I was dry, but my feet were gone. I couldn't feel them at all. I knew they were impacting the ground because I was moving forward (slowly) - it was just dull thud after thud. Also, my ears were clogged so I could here my breather really loudly - that was annoying. I got a PR worse of 25:30 for the 5K.

I realize I should get a wetsuit, wear booties and maybe arm warmers. Has anyone else had anything like this happen?

The following day I did a 3 hr ride and then ran faster than I did in the race and I stayed below 160 HR. Whats up with that?

Well If you are talking about the Smith Mountian Sprint...It wasnt the best day for a Race. Overcast and below avg temp.
Still a good day for a Race. I had a good time! Winning Helps!

I would say that most of your problems came from just not havin a wetsuit. That is a pretty low temp to not have anything to keep you warm. (wetsuit)
But even on the bike my feet felt chilled.
Running was a treat due to the freezing of the feet No socks for the ride.

I would just think about a wetsuit for temps that low.

Smith Mountain Lake it was! Nice catch. I was going into it expecting to do a whole lot better. My training speeds for half iron distances are as fast or faster than I did at this sprint. Oh well. Stuff happens
