Triathlon Boot Camps For Beginners and Experienced Athletes Coming to Mid-Atlantic Region

by on February 16, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 12, 2007) – The sport of triathlon is booming and now is the time of year that triathletes everywhere are planning for the 2007 season. Whether you are brand new to the sport or an Ironman veteran, there is no better way to kick off your season than by attending one of Mid-Atlantic Multisport’s 2007 Triathlon Boot Camps. These highly-acclaimed weekend retreats are perfect for any athletes looking to build their endurance base, shed some winter pounds and learn how to get the most out of their training.

Two Triathlon Boot Camps are being offered in Spring 2007 – one designed specifically for beginners and another for individuals with one of more years of multisport experience. Triathlon Boot Camp for Beginners will be held on March 23-25, 2007 and Triathlon Boot Camp for Experienced Athletes will be held on March 30-April 1, 2007. Each Camp offers participants a unique combination of individual analysis, structured training sessions and informative classroom time. Attendees will learn from and train alongside some of the top multisport coaches and professional athletes in the sport, including Ironman legend Ken Glah. “We are thrilled to have Ken return to our camps this year,” said Mid-Atlantic Multisport head coach Bill Hauser. “Having won six Ironman races around the world and successfully completing the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii a record 23 consecutive times, there is no one else who can provide greater insight into how to succeed in the sport of triathlon.”

The Camps both take place in scenic Chester County, Pennsylvania, where participants will have plenty opportunity to ride and run through some of the most beautiful rolling countryside and horse farms in America. Participants will train in the company of elite coaches and professionals, with the benefit cue sheets, fully-stocked rest stops and support vehicles. Several groups will be formed based on ability and fitness levels. The classroom and pool sessions will be held at the state-of-the-art ACAC Fitness & Wellness Center in West Chester, PA. Participants will have the luxury of enjoying all of ACAC’s facilities during Camp weekend – including the Center’s pools, weight rooms, steam rooms, saunas, spa and café.

Each Camp kicks off on a Friday afternoon, where a team of professional athletes, collegiate coaches and former All-American swimmers are available to videotape and analyze each participant’s swim stroke in an Endless Pools Fastlane swimming machine. Participants will receive a DVD of their swim analysis to take home with them, along with a comprehensive camp workbook, Nike Pro technical apparel and a goodie bag filled with nutritional products and sponsor giveaways.

Topics to be covered during the classroom sessions include: designing an effective training program, training and race-day nutrition strategies, open water swimming, proper bike fit, bike-to-run transition practice, tapering and race-day tactics, strength training and injury prevention. Participants in the experienced camp will also undergo comprehensive testing to determine their appropriate training and racing heart rate zones.
