A few questions!

First) What do you all like to see in a triathlon race video? I just bought a sony a1u professional video camera and will capture the events and some pro interviews throughout the whole day. I will check this post before I head down to see what all you guys like to see in the videos.

Second) Is it illegal to capture the event on video for non - personal use? (distribution). I realize it is an Ironman race, however they don't own Clearwater , or the race course or athletes itself, so whats the rule on that?

Thanks!

I would like to see a top pros transition from start to finish. Maybe T2 would be the easiest to watch all the way through. Also how they hit the aid stations on the bike and run.

I'm no copywright law talkin' guy, but I play one on TV the Internet. True, they don't own Clearwater (perfectly said), so you can take all the vids you want. What occurs in public cannot become private (property). An issue arrises if you try to sell the video or use it to promote or endorse a product. For example, I imagine you can't sell the video as, "Official Ironman Race Video" or use video of the pro athletes to sell your product (withouth their agreement) which isn't your purpose anyways. But like people putting up race vids on youtube, they aren't taken down, so just playing shouldn't be a problem.

Other than the obvious shots, I like vids of people who barely sneak across the finish, or vids of people who don't make cut-offs. This should be easy to arrange: Time when the cut-offs for the swim and bike are and scope out a spot right by an official near the water or dismount line. Then get close-ups and audio of the DENIAL! And maybe taunt them too. Kidding, don't taunt them. So many vids are all about "OMG You finished!" What about the drama of getting denied by a few seconds, or finishing within :30 seconds of the cutoff? That's drama. We all know the pros kick ass - they make it look easy. I want to see the lottery guy who has pooped his pants and may fall down a foot from the finish. And so does everyone else! Ironman blew up when NBC covered Julie Moss stumbling acros the finish line. No one cared when Dave Scott waltzed across and did a cool-down swim.

I agree. I have seen a video of a woman who got her bike to the mat 3 seconds before the cutoff time, but didn't get it OVER the mat in time (she had to dismount, I guess) and was denied the run portion. She cried in the video, I cried at the computer.
"That's drama!"

Trisooner that is a great Idea and I will definatly do it. What I plan on doing is actually throwing together a .com for florida triathlons in general so I will put a great video together and hundred pictures of the event.
