Seeking Aero Helmet Advice
I dont wear one b/c i really cant afford one! I would rather spend my money on a new regular helmet that i will use alot!Capiche? Chrissy doesnt wear one!lol
I wear one when I am going all out or close to it (Oly, Sprint). For the IM, comfort is the priority so I wear my vented Bell helmet. Plus, if you put your head down the helmet starts whislting and probably creates more drag. I tend to put my head down from time to time over 112 miles.
The only downside is I look so damn good (who doesn't) with the aero helmet on and I miss out on that ;-)

They are good for speed only. No additional comfort. Perhaps even a bit uncomfortable due to the 'tail'. Some have said they are similar to an aero front wheel! Even in Kona they are very common.
thanks for the advice. It is in line with what I was already thinking. I am going to stick with my regular helmet.
gfd, I might take the aero helmet with me anyway to get some good photo's pre race with it on, so I can get the "looking damn good" image.
Don't forget how it makes you "feel fast". I've worn my aero helmet in a mountain bike race before...haha

That's the spirit!

Of course, if an aero helmet results in home speed at similar power output, then doesn't it stand to reason that you should be able to hold the same speed at lower power output and enter T2 fresher for the run?
I wore my for the HIM, but as earlier poster stated, you have to keep the head up, be comfortable, and not overheat so race conditions, experience with the helmet, and ability to stay aero are all factors in the decision.

Who doesn't look good? Everyone. It's a matter of my aesthetic taste, but I think they are especially abominable when worn by someone riding a triple.

I have been offered a friends aero helmet to use for Ironman Florida and would like to know from those of you that have used one if I should use it. I do not plan on being very competitive, so I guess my question is are there other benefits of using the helmet than just speed? For example comfort, less drag or just looking fast in my race photo's.
