Riding while listening to an ipod?
If someone jumps off a bridge are you to follow?
**Pain is weakness leaving the body**
*Smile, it does a body good*
There is a riding path and I'll wear my iPod but have the volume down enough where I can hear outside noise. I won't wear it if I am riding where there is any traffic

Just keep spinning....spinning, spinning....uh, do I know you?

Occasionally but If I do, the volume is low and only in one ear
Nope never have or will i ever wear music whilst cycling way to dangerous!!!Now running that's a different story!lol
Glorify God in your body!
Do you listen to the radio when you are driving? I wear an ipod all the time when riding my bike, but at low background level so you can still hear.
I think it's dangerous and that you aren't nearly as attentive as you think you are. All of the races I've ever done (granted, not so very many all told) explictly state no headphones. So why train in a way that doesn't reflect how you'll race?

I read that 3 times before I realized it said 'attentive' and not 'attractive.' Just didn't make sense.
I always do, bricks a brutal without one. But I am also ridiculously observant.
Don't count the days, make days count.

Not attractive either... I don't want to be widowed young. A guy I know used to wear headphones while biking, but I judged him pretty negatively for it. I'm usually pretty relaxed, but I found myself acting like a controlling b**** about the headphones while biking issue.
No. No. No.
Never on the road. It's a safety issue for me. You have only 5 senses. Arguably only 2 of those help keep you alive while riding. Why deliberately impair one?
So many accidents occur even while a rider is following ALL the rules and paying full attention. Why raise your risk of accidents by listening to music? We've all heard about the tragedies. They scare me enough to remember that I am not invincible.

Deaf in one ear, leaving me without the choice of using ipod outside. But if I did have the option, it would still be no.
i dont know what today will bring to me, but thats just fine.
I sometimes put one earphone in my right ear so I can have my left ear to hear. I felt like I was going deaf in my right ear when I was done, and yes big safety hazard.
a bit off topic I suppose.

I do listen occasionally when riding by myself, at low volume, on long Base rides once I get out in the country. I know, it's probably not safe, but I rationalized it to myself that if a car coming up behind me swerves to the right, it doesn't matter if I hear it coming loudly or softly. I may as well go out whistling a happy tune...
I agree with dkhartung!

+1 with the caveat we are talking about a low- to no-car traffic cycling loop. For example, Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth has a five-mile loop around the course. Given that TMS is used only a few times a year for NASCAR, it is car-free 99% of the time. If/when I ride out there, I'll plug in. Also, sometimes when I ride around White Rock Lake in Dallas (9-mile loop, no-car), I'll plug in, but it gets so crowded with other cyclists and runners I need to be able to focus on everyone else. If I'm on open road, I won't wear them. I'm such a fatalist that I think that if I get hit (for #3), the driver would get off by making the excuse that "OMG! That stupid cyclist was wearing his headphones and he didn't hear me pulling out in front of him! He got in my way. It's his fault." I have no doubt that would we a defensible excuse around here.
Another big NO. also think you can a moving violation for in certain locales
what I'm up to:

You're clearly suicidal if do. Not safe. Keep to your common sense and away from what "others" are doing.

Anyone done this? I've never done it of concerns of safety but recently i've noticed more people are doing it.
I normally do a park loop sometimes which is out of the hustle of dayly traffic where i reckon it would be fine, but what about on the open road?
Just a query to see who uses them and who doesnt?
