Ensure - Sugar Water or really a balanced nutritional supplement?
Forget the sugar... burn off. I look at cals, carbs, protein, sodium, potassium, essential minerals and a damn good chocolate fix at 4:00 a.m. and with one before the race.
Review the index.
Qaulifier, I should have added race day supplement not daily or nutritional supplement.
..sugar water?..the people making this claim READ whats in it? i typically drill down an Ensure (or a generic, cheaper but still the same stuff alternative) if Im in a rush and have ha-d either:
- a very hard workout and will have a longer than 30 min. gap before I can eat real food
or
- immediately post race.
Sometimes in a rush Ill take an Ensure, drop in a scoop or 2 of Isopure Whey and put that down. 500cals right there..
But its definitely No substitute for real food.
cheers

shot!! yes it would have to be coupled with a balanced diet, I prefer the Herbalife Formula 1 shake, it is absolutely brilliant but I can't afford to use it all the time and Ensure is a third of the price!

Definitely not sugar water! Sugar water is...Kool Aid, Tang, Iced Tea.
The intended purpose of Ensure was as a meal replacement for hospitalized patients. The stuff is legit. And there are alternative products in the same family. Additionally, it is not generally marketed towards athletes and for various reasons much more affordable than comparable meal replacements and sports products of similar quality.
I agree with all above in that there is no replacement for a balanced diet and depending on how and when you are using it, Ensure may or may not be necessary.

I like Ensure High protein as a supplement pre-race.
It digest easily and tops off my glycogen stores nicely.
I also like to have one post race to get carbs and protein in me to recover.

Out of all the products I see on the shelf sitting with the Ensure, IMHO, Ensure beats them all. After looking at what is put in the drinks...Ensure doesn't have high fructose corn syrup with in the first couple ingrediants. I'll take straight sugar over the corn syrup any day. Before a workout or race I can't eat solid food so Ensure gives me everything I need.
FYI...There isn't anything grown or made that doesn't have sugar in it. Bananas, carrots, beets....everything has sugar. sugarstacks.com uses sugar cubes to show how much sugar is in different items. It is interesting.

Hi there
I see there is alot of hype around Ensure being basically sugar water but I do know of guys using it to add to their nutritional intake, is it a safe product to use with regards to it's sugar content ??
Thank you!
