My hairdresser says to apply leave on conditioner to your hair b/f you swim.I have yet to try it. They also make special shampoo/conditioners for swimmers hair.

Leave in conditioner after you shower helps but I buzzed for simplicity and now my hair is almost as short as gfd.
You should try it. It will always grows back in a month or two and no worries about chloine, a brush, or other hair annoyances...

get your hair wet with fresh water before getting in the pool.
your hair is porous - so it takes in the fresh water.. so it will not absorb so much chlorine water.

this was the advice from my hairdresser.
when i am consistant in doing it - it seems to work
after i soaked with fresh water i put in a SMALL amount of conditioner...

My hairdresser says to use clarifying shampoo. I think it works as well as Ultraswim. Do you use conditioner?

cut off the hair, you won't have a problem...

Or use a swimcap might help a little as well in my experiences

All of the above.
Once a week treatment of olive oil will help with the dryness, it's a saving grace.

Everyone has already said what I would suggest. I use Ultraswim which isn't bad. I have also bought some shampoo & conditioner from swimoutlet.com that worked really well, similar to Ultraswim but the conditioner is better than Ultraswim.

I have also heard about getting your hair wet with water from the shower. Like what maggiemeans said, your hair is porous and the fresh water keeps the clorine from bonding with your hair.

I have also found success with that Vibe shampoo and conditioner. I wash as soon as I get out of the water also. So the clorine doesn't sit in my hair.

The thicker silicone caps help and won't break your hair more like latex caps...

lala, maybe i misunderstood, but please don't put conditioner in and leave it before getting in the pool...it's just going to float all over the pool and won't really do much for you

I try to
1. fresh water rinse before swimming
2. apply some leave in conditioner
3. wear a cap
4. wash after with a basic Nutragena clarifying shampoo.

You should try TRISWIM. I love it. Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash to get the chlorine out. Swim Outlet carries it.

I just deal with dry frizzy hair... I gel it back to deal with the flyaways put in in a neat bun when I need to look professional. My hair is super curly to begin with, so I don't naturally have a natural low maintenance style and it would just be more work than its worth to deal with... Most of the time, I would rather be fast than pretty, but when I'm in the other mindset I'll keep these tips in mind.

If you don't want to shave your head, go for the clarifying shampoo and conditioner, plus I use dish soap once a week to strip the chlorine. Wetting it before makes a big difference too. I don't know how people keep long hair...I guess it's Kat's olive oil that saves the day!

There are A LOT of fancy swimming specific shampoos out there, and a lot of my competitive swimmer friends use one or the other, but I have found that Pantene Pro-V Purity Clarifying Shampoo works really well for me, plus you can get it at most supermarkets, and it isn't that expensive.

Leave in conditioner, and I do a treatment each week.
I have this problem a bit too, because I love the beach to much salt water sends my hair white.

Why would you want to "fix" that. I actually love the feel of chlorine hair. It's the only time I feel like my thin (not to be confused with "thinning") hair has volume. I love the smell of chlorine too. Clears out the sinuses. I did swim for 15 years growing up though so I'm probably a bit bias.
