50 Days of Core VI

Round 6

As always, everyone is welcome to participate as much as or as little as you would like.

It should be noted that participation in a Core Challenge can become highly addictive, which in turn can add self-confidence and improved swim, bike , and run times and in some extreme cases the participants may be tempted to break out bikinis or even speedos.

And a special thanks to Warrior who suggested adding pull-ups to the challenge. 5 pull-ups (not necessarily in a row) = 1 point.

Rules:
1. 100 reps = 1 point.
2. 1 minute of timed exercises(planks etc.) = 50 reps.
3. Core specific exercises only. Abs, obliques, lower back.
4. Begin September 15 and End November 3 (The 3rd counts for total pts).
5. You are NOT out if you miss a day, but the goal is to work the core for 50 straight days.
6. On this thread, we can post our daily or weekly totals and share routines/results. etc.
7. The picture page can be used for those interested in before and after pics.
8. Pushups should be counted separately and should remain in their own category.
50 pushups = 1 point.
9. Determine the added worth of certain exercises and give yourself the extra points.
Ex. Reverse roman chair leg raises might be worth double. So 50 = 1 point.
This is not a competition, it is for personal improvement, so this won't be a problem.

pull-ups?!?! I'm a girl for cryin' out loud. If we have to do pull-ups, you guys have to learn to do the splits.

What the heck, I'm in. Don't expect any before/after pictures but I've always been bad at sticking to core programs. I always feel like I am in a gym class and need some bad jogging shorts and a sweat band. Maybe this one will stick.

I need to do this too....I have a really hard time making myself do gym and core work. My goal was to spend more time doing this during the winter months...

Just keep spinning....spinning, spinning....uh, do I know you?

Good luck tomorrow. Remember, if you miss a day or two, don't give up. Keep posting and get back into it. It does become a habit and it does get easier as you go.

Wait I haven't finished the last one yet and we are starting again? I am going to look like corn on the cob if you keep that up. Seriously 10 pull ups 1 point? 50 push ups 1 point... Okay I won't complain, but 10 is bloody hard, last time I did 10 I got injured. :-)

I didn't have the daily core discipline over the last 50 days, other than, I did more core than I had over any given time period previous. And yet, I still saw results. You daily demons must have seen some killer results.

I'm in for VI.

Tuesday is the one day of the week that doesn't have a feeling to it, so I thought why not give it some significance(stolen from Kramer on Seinfeld). Or...Core 5 ended today and I don't want to miss a day so I thought I would get Core 6 up and going immediately. Had to put it up a few days early to spread the word and give people time to mentally prepare. Starting the Core threads is an awesome responsibility ;-)

If Geoff is in there are going to be some serious point totals.

In addition to upper body workout-
10 pull ups: 1 point
240 ball crunches w/25lb plate: 2 points
3 sets 10/woodchoppers w/40lbs: 1/2 point
3 sets 10/lower back rows w/40lbs: 1/2 point
Total (4) points

Just keep spinning....spinning, spinning....uh, do I know you?

I am afraid I can't start till Monday, suspected hernia in a disc in my neck.....not going to bother sucking it up till I find out for sure......but I am sure i will catch one or two of you when I am better :-)

How many core points do you all typically accumulate/day?

Today is my light day; I did:
20 Pullups (2)
50 Pushups
100 Crunches (1)
3 Minutes Plank (3)

So 6 Points for today - should I be shooting for a lot more than that? My strength days should add another 3-5 points to the 6.

on my "low point" days, I aimed for 3
the highest I got in a day was 10, but that was rare
Do as many or as few as you want...the idea is to go for as many days as possible

Ohh alright - Good to know! Upon further review - my strength days will only add 2-3 tops, but consistency is the goal.

I've got a lot of time on my hands, haha

Great to see so many involved this time. Slow and steady is right on.

Leg shaving pull is classic. Couch or bed injuries....unfortunately, I have been there.

A bunch of fun stuff worth 4 points, but not including pushups: 10 total (12 with pushups).

You guys counting pullups because I do a lot of them - I feel like I'll end up skewing my number.
