Trail Running - training?
50/50 is fine. While trail running is great and easier on the legs...running on the road gets you used to pounding the snot out of your legs...it's also easier to do tempo runs to help with speed on the road.
I think it's good to switch back and forth...builds over all leg strength you don't get from sticking to one or the other.
Have fun!

Thanks Anton. :)
I assume it's similar to the MTB/road switching I've done.... I find MTB kicks my butt when I haven't done it for awhile, it's much more burst-and-recovery rather than steady-effort. And all those stability muscles get their chance to shine, bike handling skills. Oh and when I sliced my thumb open at the start of my IMC bike, it was no big deal, on the MTB I see blood more rides than not. ;)

Hmm i would second 50/50. I read somewhere that trail running helps your balance and core a lot so it would pretty much be exactly like the MTB in that respect. You'd be building stability / balance muscles while also getting some decent "interval" training in.
Besides, it can be WAY more fun than the road
50/50 is good, but you should also consider adding in a shorter 5K-15K trail race before your 25K just to get a feel for trail running at speed and in a crowd.
Should be a great time, have fun out there
I love trail running. Most of my training is off road, even if it is on packed sand/ dirt trails, I try to stay off road. I run maybe once a week on pavement. It takes some getting used to, and there are a few skills to pick up regarding going up and down hills, so get out there!
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

I'm doing a 25k trail race in late October, just to try it out and to give me a post-IMC goal.
I have minimal off-road experience, so I definitely plan to get at least some of my training in on trails near my place. But should *all* of my pre-race runs be trail runs? Or is it OK to do 50/50?
My goals are very conservative - I just want to see what it's about and finish with a smile on my face...
