Has anyone gotten a rash from their swim caps?

First thing....I am not allergic to latex. I have been wearing latex caps...well always. My cap ripped on Friday so I went out and got a new one. I wore that on Sunday and ever since then I have had this red, itchyness on my forehead and ears. I can only guess that it was the powder but it isn't going away. I have used Benadryl cream and taken Claritin (I have allergies to other things). Still there and itchy. I swam in open water on Sunday but I don't have a rash or anything anywhere else. Anyone else seen this?

I haven't heard of this before so I can't provide any incite, but you might want to try swimming with a silicone cap MUCH more comfortable.

you could be developing a latex allergy. I am allergic to latex- I only figured it out when I became sexually active. okay, maybe tmi...but my point is, the more latex you are exposed to, the more allergic you will be- so check it out.

Yeah I was thinking that too---
Just because you havn't been allergic does not mean you aren't developing an allergy. Your previous cap(s) may have been worn so much in chlorene that the material has broken down and doesn't bother you.

I would try another brand.. maybe from one company to the next they use different substances to form "their" particular latex which could be manufactured differently than another company.

Could be dry skin - caused by the chlorine or other reasons?

i'm going to go with the above, dry skin or allergy to latex. try silicon based swim cap and go buy a GOOD dandruff shampoo. I forget the one that I have used that worked, but it smelled awful. If that doesn't help I'd talk to a Dr. or keep spaming the boards for more ideas.

yeah it could just be that the contact area was where the waterborne irritant hung out for a while (swimmer's itch for the head?)

Thanks all! I thought maybe it was the lake water too, but they only place I have this rash is where my cap was. I told my hubby that it is wierd that I have been wearing a latex cap for almost a year and I get a new one (this is my third) and this shows up. I said there had to be something in the powder and he said "Yeah, latex." (what a smart azz) He said they sell latex gloves without the powder because people have reactions and apperently my skin does not like the consentration in the powder. This getting older and developing allergies is re-damn-diculous! This is like the 10th allergy I've developed. At the rate I am going, I'll be living in a bubble soon!

yep I had it, comes from silicone, I have it from the goggles as well, you need to see an alergy specialist and get desensitised and switch to cloth caps.
