The next race I'm doing is a qualifyer for nationals in Sprint distance AG... They say the top 5 of all ag's qualify for nationals. A few questions, do you only have to qualify once? Is it a big deal to make it to nationals, or is it seemingly easy for someone who races often? This will be my 5th race but I I've always placed in my ag and been top 25 overall... ????

Top5 or 3%, whatever is greater. Once you qualify, you are in for that year. It's a big deal to some people, to others it's not. Sprint nationals doesnt really mean anything to me- not that I would qualify- but I think AG Nationals is a better deal, the competition is more fierce, and the Olympic distance is more standard on the international level.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Qualifiying is 99% luck of the draw, mostly depends on who shows up to race.

So should others be scared because I'm showing up to race? LOL...anyways thanks for the advice. I know the olympic distance is where it's at, but that's next year for me. This year I'm doing 7 sprints and 1 Oly at the end of the year, and then next year its international distance all year.

I guess you missed the second 3, but it is top 33 percent or top five finishers (whichever is greater) in each age group. Depending on the AG, there might not even be five people in it, and "top third" could be really easy to crack.

Generally, people that qualify for nationals have at least some talent. Some may not be ridiculous stars, but you won't be racing against any scrubs, at least in your AG. I'm doing AG nationals in Tuscaloosa, alabama in late august. I want to place top 5 overall and see if that can hopefully help me claim elite status. I'm also obviously looking to go to Budapest, Hungary in 2010 for Worlds in my age group.

we should set up a trifuel tent in tuscaloosa, i bet a bunch of people would show up, and it would definitely be good recognition for the website. To qualify for worlds i think you have to place in the top 8 in your age group at AG nationals. dont take my word for that though.
