I know this may be a stupid question, but when planning a week of workouts does anyone use a Sunday throught Saturday week as opposed to a Monday through Sunday week. I am only asking because switching to a Sunday through Saturday week would give me 3 full days off a week for training (because of my work schedule) as opposed to sometimes having only 2 days off to do long workouts.

The days are whatver you make them. The only reason that most plans use a Mon-Sun week is that races are typically held on Sundays - meaning that the final week of the plan ends with race day. Balance the workout load according to your schedule.

I choose Mon - Sun simply because my long ride/run changes from Sat to Sun sometimes. I don't want to have 0 long runs one week, then 2 the next week. It can be Thurs - Wednesday as long as you are consistent.

The Monday through Sunday approach is probably also due to most people working Monday through Friday and having Saturday and Sunday off for long(er) sessions. The only things I can think of when re-arranging a pre-made schedule would be to schedule your longest days prior to a day off so you can recover; schedule runs and swims for days you work (if you can) because typically they take less than the bike; schedule the bike first and the following day could/should be the run; and schedule your bike sessions for days off.

In the summer I use Wednesday and Thursday for my weekend long rides and runs. During the rest of the year I use a Monday to Sunday. Whatever works for your schedule.

I agree with everyone above. Many pros are not constrained by the 7 day week format and have cycles that last 5 days or 10 days or whatever. The important thing is to understand how to structure the timing of the training load within the time period.

I don't really ever think about which is the start and end... be careful with it since your body doesn't really know the difference. I just put the workouts on the days that work for me and my schedule, looking at the big picture of what else goes on and making sure the workload is distributed.

I have always used Monday to Sunday. I guess it's because Monday always feels like the beginning of a new week, despite what the calendar says.
