Power cranks (not power meters)

What's the deal with these things called power cranks? I'm not talking about power meters, but I was surfing around the web and saw these weird things on www.powercranks.com They claim to increase avg. speed by 2-3 mph in 6-9 months. It's a long time, but definitely could be worth it (other than the fact that they cost a fortune). Are these things for real or is it just placebo?

Yes, those things are wicked crazy!!! I tried them earlier this year, my coach had just gotten them for his birthday from his wife. I tried it and looked like a complete idiot my first go 'round. These things train your legs so they don't work against each other when you pedal. It teaches you to power your pedaling through a FULL revolution, not just on the down or upstroke. I could feel a difference in my legs after only a few minutes. I wouldn't recommend them on anything but your trainer at first (which I did), cause you will kill yourself outside until you get used to them. If you got the funds to get them I would, I got them on my xmas list this year.

damn i wish that i wasnt about to drop so much money on my new bike or else i would definitely get that--i guess that makes sense and it has so many testimonials that it probably works really well. Thanks, i'll make sure to start taking my tips and put them into a "powercrank fund" haha.

The concept seems sounds, but I think the best testimonial is if you ever see anyone training with them that isn't paid to use them or endorse them. I've ridden with numerous roadie racing clubs and I've never seen anyone riding with them. Granted, roadies are more entrenched in Euro tradition (first TdF in 1903) than are triathletes (first IM in 1978), so maybe they are just slower to adopt to technology.

I rode in a cycling club for a couple of years and we had several riders on PCs, and they were the guys who were moving up in the rankings. I've also seen a guy crash while on PCs - he was out of the saddle trying to sprint through a yellow light and went down hard.

My understanding is that they make your pedal stroke more efficient and also strengthen the hip flexor. Many triathletes swear that they improve running performance because of the hip flexor strength. I can't afford them :-(

I've been trying to find a set of the original power cranks used, but they never seem to be for sale. That says a lot about them in my opinion. Some of those drills they have on their site are pretty awesome too. If I could ever afford them I'd get them in a second.

OH GOD... can't I get away from Powercranks anywhere? You should go ask Frank about them. He'll happily tell you how wonderful they are.

I agree...they seem sound, but the unrelenting shameless plugging they recieve on slowtwitch makes me not want to try them.

I don't think I'll ever have the spare money lying around to justify buying them
