70.3 Sellouts
I know they added people to the start list of Steelhead because the demand was soo great. In terms of other races, I know Longhorn 70.3 was still open within the up and coming days of the race.
I believe that I signed up for the Florida 70.3 in January of last year for the May event. If it was not Jan. it was for sure late December.
Oceanside is sold out i know that and it has been for a while.
If your going to do something wrong enjoy it.
I don't think Lake Stevens 70.3 sells out. (Lake Stevens, WA, near Everett)
Eagleman 2009 sold out as well. I want to do Eagleman but just can't afford it right now. I hope it does not sell out anytime soon.
Gotta lose that head fat.
Boise won't sell out before the end of the year. And I doubt any of the newer ones will--Atlanta, New Orleans, Kansas, Austin....seems the events that sell out are the ones that have been around the longest. You should definitely be fine waiting till Jan to register, but I'll bet you could even register up to the day of the race at any of the above.
Greatness is only achieved by those who perpetually raise the expectations of themselves to the point where it ruins their life.
I'm not so sure that Steelhead sells out; I know of people the last couple years who have signed up a week or so before the race. Either way, it's a great race and I would recommend. I'll probably be doing it again this year. Also, if you're looking for another quality race in the Great Lakes region, I've heard good things about the Spirit of Racine in Wisconsin in late July.

Yeah, it was still open right up until the week before (I was toying with registering)
Muskoka 70.3 in Ontario sold out last year, almost a year before the event... 2009 is almost full.

Unless you are absolutely dying for a chance at a Kona slot or to the 70.3 "worlds" and are just looking for a good HIM...there are tons of indie races that are well run and have been around much longer than most of the 70.3 events.

The same crew that does Timberman 70.3 and Longhorn 70.3 does a non-70.3 branded half-iron race in Galveston (LoneStar) in early April (first weekend I think). It's top knotch or at least it has been in the last 2 years (FYI - prior to that there was a different company doing a race at this same time and they were AWFUL). They say the race is definately on even with the beating Galveston took. A good opportunity to help Galveston recover and get a early season jump on racing.

Tri-ac have you done this one? I have thought about it, but am usually more drawn to bigger races. That and its out in BFE with little hotel options that I feel comfortable with, because I like to make a mini vacation out of it. I have heard it is beautiful though.

I have not, but folks in the Portland Tri Club think it's a good one.

which 70.3 events will typically sell out before the end of the calendar year 2008? I have no idea where i'll be yet this summer to know where I'm going to race, so signing up for my A race is impossible : (. The list doesn't have to only include the ironman brand events. I am specifically thinking of Boise and steelhead.
thanks ya'll
