So I nursed a knee injury back to health (took off training completely for a week), and started back last Sunday with a very, very easy 20 minute jog. Then, Tuesday, added 10 minutes, but still, very, very light just to test the knee. So, I felt it was alright to maybe do some intervals on Thursday after reading that new article on here... Did it on a treadmill and did 4 mins @ 7.0 then 1 min @ 10.0 for 30 minutes. Around the 24th minute the outside left of my left foot felt a little sore, but, being a triathlete, I assumed it was on of those little come-n-go pains we all get when we run. Finished up the last interval and did a two minute cool down, stretched, and on the way out, same spot on the foot was hurting. It's been 3 days and every step hurts... I can walk on it but its annoying and sometimes its better than others. I've looked at all the possibilities and I'm thinking either stress fracture (but it doesn't hurt to the touch) or bone spur. What do you guys think? Was I too quick to go back into more intense running? I didn't feel like the intervals (especially on the treadmill) were so intense as to mess up my foot this bad.?

PS- This was my third time running in my new Brooks Trances. Any chance I wasted $140 on some nice shoes that aren't right for my feet? (Even though the guy at the shop said they were perfect?)

Pleasse help!

Peace, Love, and Tri. :-)

See a doc if the pain doesnt go away, but stop 'testing it' for a while. I am still recovering from an injury called Peroneal Brevous Tendonosis. Its an inflammation in the tendons running from my pinky toe down the side of my foot. Its been seven months and its just one of those things you have to wait on and take it easy on. There are soo many little bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons in the foot that you really need to see a doc if the pain doesnt go away. Sorry to hear but good luck!

"see a doc" and without question go drop another $?? on some foot beds for your now brooks running shoes. I SWEAR that the first thing that any athlete should do with a new pair of shoes is throw away the foot bed and put in a pair of Superfeet or something like that. If you have the money to drop have a Dr. or a pro ski boot fitter make you a pair on beds that fits YOUR foot. I was having epic problems with foot and knee injuries until I started wearing Superfeet in ALL (even my slippers) shoes.

Also, get a second opinion on your shoes if you can. Some shops like to sell snake oil and other questionable products. Can't hurt to get more info.

As much as I love running, I have realized that it is important to get a doctor's help and allow my leg to heal. I have a bad case of shin splints in my left leg caused by failing arch muscles. I will be spending the next four months recovering from this and visiting a physical therapist, which means no running. It is driving me crazy but worth it to know that I will be able to run pain-free again. As long as I can start running by Feb. 1 so I can be ready for the Oceanside HIM, I will sacrifice not running for a few months. Get help before it gets worse.
