Offseason Base Training

For the first 8 weeks of base training, yes. Use the beginning to establish form and strength. Hit the weights often and include lots of drill work in your runs and rides. You just might be surprised how much you improve from taking it easy and focusing on that. Every year, I feel like I am not doing all that greatr after Prep, Base 1, and sometimes Base 2. But when Easy intervals and tempo stuff starts creeping in with Base 3, the fruits of labor are readily apparent. Like, holy, crap! I have not failed to beat my previous performance graded tests from the previous year.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

+1

I'm ending my first season and going into the offseason looking to get stronger and maintain my base, if not slightly improve. When I go out and run or bike I'm working hard to push myself some days and take it easy other days. Would it be wrong to switch back and forth between sprints and easier sessions?
