Anyone doing the SOMA in Tempe, AZ next week. This is my first tri...I am doing the quarterman. I am not sure if I should rent a wetsuit or just tough it ou. The water temperature will be anywhere from 65-72 degrees. Any thoughts?

Yes, wetsuit. They not only keep you warm but also help you float which is a safety issue on ANYONES first tri. Unless your a master open water swimmer a wet suit will not hurt you, except in your transition zone. :)

I try to get everyone into this sport, and it's important that your first experiance with it be a posative one. Have fun with it.

I'm doing the quarterman at SOMA and I'm wearing a wetsuit. I'm thinking most people will be wearing wetsuits.

Definitely go with the wetsuit. I have done the quarterman twice and each time they had wetsuit strippers there to help you get your suit off. It was great. More importantly make sure you bring goggles that can help with the sun since the start is around sunrise and the light can play havoc with your sighting.

I've done SOMA a couple of times. Both times we were 'told' to get into the water early, then the start was delayed by a few minutes. There were a few people there without wetsuits and you could tell they were cold. The wetsuit also helps with bouyancy so you can relax a bit more while waiting to start.

Yes for the wetsuit. It will help with your buoyancy and getting you in the right position in the water and will keep you warm. Good luck!! ;-)

Nothing to it, but to do it
