Yeah, it seems a bit odd to me that the relays like this are as expensive per person as they are. I mean, I know they need longer time and distance permits, but they close nothing, have no controlled intersections, and you provide your own support and a couple volunteers if you are local.
Another of the team (12 people, or 6- for an ultra team). This one is the coast by Santa Barbara and LA -- 177 miles. Not sure if I'm going to be able to do it, but maybe...
