No Bare Torso Rule?
It is NOT a USAT rule. They tried to make it one and it failed to pass. However, individual races can require a shirt if they choose. I think NAS/ IM requires a shirt, so if your HIM was a 70.3, that would be the case.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
I was first informed of this rule during the pre-race meeting and rules official presentation before Vineman this year. Those guys made it pretty clear. They also made it clear that urinating on the course would result in an immediate DQ, although I saw both at Vineman. I did not see any bare tops at Longhorn this weekend, but if you're crazy enough to go shirtless in the Texas sun, then you're probably faster than me.

That's new to me...I always race with a bare torso...

Did I click on the TGGW thread by accident???
I only race shirtless in sprints, anything longer the sun is just too brutal (at least here in AZ).

Check out my blog!
I have only raced shirtless at sprints too. I would not even think about spending 5 hours in the Texas sun without one unless I was at the beach with a beer.
I just thought that it was an interesting rule. Now having to hold my bladder for several hours on the bike course, that would be a killer!
Yeah, I'll race in just a sports bra type top at races that allow it, but there are definitely some that don't. Although I'm not sure if they mind girls in sports bras -- I'm pretty sure I've seen that even at races with the torso rule. Although maybe that is allowed at those -- I know at ITU stuff you have to have your stomach covered now (which is why Hunter Kemper's shirts got longer).

Take advantage of the bare torso while your still young cause when you get in your forties
it doesnt look as pretty as it used to no how much you train!

The rules allow you to empty the bladder - they just make you wait for a port-o-can.

Even as a dude, I am confident in saying you should only race shirtless if you look like this:

(It will never die. Wonder how he's doing in . . . some . . . military training . . . academy? I'm Ron Burgundy?)

hey, 40 or not, i'd bet a seasoned triathlete has more of a reason for a bare torso than 1/2 of the nonsense you see running around town/gym. You can tell which ones I'm talking about by the running makeup or gelled hair. I'm not even going to mention what you find at the bars.
I say race in what your comfortable with. I had a women tell me something I'll never forget on a bike tour I was working. She was probably mid 30's and said "multisport athletes just look better naked." Well put I think.
Yea your right! I do still look pretty darn good especially when compared to most people i know. I guess the older i get the less i like to show. Gravity sucks!

... pulls, from my experience. The wind blows, and drafting sucks. :)

I can't say I have a problem with fit women running around in sports bras either.
WOO HOO!! TGGW. ;-)

Yeah, gravity is not kind at 40+ but it is better when you are in shape than not.

in regards to peeing, does that include peeing 'in-transit'? I'm curious what the criteria is. Just in case :)
I will check the rules on this...

Can anyone elaborate on this rule? I have raced at several events (some with a bare torso) and never heard of this until this weekend at the Longhorn HIM in Austin Texas. I looked on the USAT website and found some mentions of it. USAT says it is strictly enforced.. Is this old news or a new rule?
Just curious for the future.
