Hi,

I'm really new to this site (so I hope this is the right section), as well as triathlon :) I'm an 18 year old from Denmark, and have recently been inspired to start competing in triathlon by my bad.

My problem is something that has recently been plaguing my training, and it would be an absolute bliss if you guys could spot out and possibly solve the problem. I have previously been a very enthusiastic bike rider, and I've had my bike for a good 5 years now, so thats alot of mileage, recently I've had these problems though...

First problem. I have aquired myself an aero bar recently, as I feel every little counts (and I won't say no to a few free km/h more). However, whenever I attempt to lean into the pads, I feel strong nagging in my sitting bone (if I sit further out) or the the place where my leg and pelvis connect. Is this a problem with my saddle? Or is it due to me not having a Tri-bike?

Second Problem. This is not tri-specific, however, it is very annoying. Lately my gears have started acting very weird. The gears some to skip, which isn't that uncommon for aging bikes, but what seems weird to me, is that it skips gears 'up' rather than down. Have any of you experienced this before? Is there a solution other than replacing the gears?

Thanks a bunch!

TB

1. The saddle pain could be any number of things. You may want to at least try a triathlon-specific saddle, which has more padding out on the nose.

2. There are three possibilities that I can think of with your shifting. First, your rear derailleur could be out of adjustment. To adjust it, turn the cable stop for your rear dearilleur clockwise one-quarter turn to see if that stops the problem. Keep doing additional quarter turns to see if the chain stops skipping up. Second, it could be that your derailleur hanger is bent--if that's the case you need to replace the hanger as no amount of adjusting will fix it. Finally, if you have never replaced the gears and chain on your 5 year old bike, it may be time to do so.

Thanks alot PJT.

I'll go try adjusting the derailleur now!

As for chainging the gears and chain. Crazy as it may sound, I think it's cheaper (more or less) to just buy a new bike here in Denmark, as bike parts are ridicolously expensive with tax and so on, which is why I'm so reluctant to.

Thanks a bunch!

EDIT: Can anyone recommend a Tri Saddle?
