+1 I downloaded and customized it. Saved me tons of time. It is at the bottom of the first post as an Excel file.

+2 except for one thing I notice on the list. It says "reflective crap" --Buy Onsite. My first IM Canada I tried to buy on site and they had sold out EVERYWHER with the stick ons. I ended up using a wrist band wrapped around my number belt in the back. Last year I came with it already so I could just stick the dots/ etc on my race number (FYI they will not stay on your clothes if you wear the same thing through the swim -run. They tend to fall off on the swim if you stick them to your clothes)
SO it looks to me like a great list. A couple of questons though.
I am definitely on a space constraint as I will be flying down from Alaska for the event. How would you pare down the list for flying travel?
What is a Chip Strap?
What is Headsweats?
What is an Amphipod?
If you forget the stick do you still need the birth control?
If you did fly, how do you transport the crack baggies and crack pipe?

I love the progression of those questions...
1) Chip strap is the velcro strap that holds your timing chip to the ankle...if you don't have your own, I'd imagine they are provided...they are at every race I've been to...FORGET IT
2)Not sure on this one
3)Water bottle/nutrition belt that can be worn on the run...not needed if you don't have one...but make sure you have a nutrition plan
4)Personal preference
5)Ship them in an unmarked container...also, sell as much product as you can while at the race...you won't have to worry about getting it home and with the down economy...might as well stockpile

1. you can buy a chip strap on line at any tri sport shop or at the expo. the benefit to buying one is they are typically made of neoprene instead of the scratchy nylon they give you in a race. Last year a IMC they gave out 25th anniversary straps, but did not the time before when I did it (05)
2.Headsweats is a brand name that makes visors, hats dewrags etc.
3. ditto
4. ditto
5. rent or buy a hard case for your bike--are you in Anchorage? Try Skinny Raven , I think they sell bike stuff or REI. Once you get your bike in there , there is plenty of space to pack all the rest of your crap in around the bike . Then you just need to pack your regular bag.

In that thread is a link for a checklist of things to pack or disregard for an IM race.

I am signed up for IM Canada next year and was wondering what gear everyone thinks is essential for an Ironman race(not looking for bare minimum's, but what everyone bring as their essential gear). Even the obvious is nice to hear, just in case it gets overlooked.
Thanks,
Todd
