I have a Cateye Wireless Computer and the mileage continues to be off. I can ride 52 miles and the computer will register 41.37.

Husband has three times measured the wheel and check the distance and still mielage is off.

Suggestions?

New computer :P

I've had a few computers that way haywire on me. If you haven't owned it too long you could probly return it without any guff.

Weary is the path that does not challenge.

How do you know it is 52 miles? Other methods, ie, a car or GPS or other people's computers? I think it is the calibration. And he's been measuring the circumference of the wheel and is entering it into the computer? Check Sheldon Brown's calibration chart if you've lost your documentation:

http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cyclecomputer-calibration.html

Also, something much simpler would be to ensure that the censor picks up a signal from the magnet on your spokes each and every revolution. Sometimes if you hit a bump the magnet may move down the spoke and/or the censor on the fork may move away from the magnet/spoke. If your computer misses less than 100 revolutions of the wheel* you've lost about 1/10 of a mile on your computer.

700x23 wheel circumference = 2,097mm X 100 revolutions = ~.13 miles

Are you riding wheelies?

+1 on sensor/magnet

I have a bladed fork and can't get the sensor to sit still. I constantly have adjust it in order to get it to record accurately.

Everyone else in the group tells me how far we ride. Not new. I think what I have to do is "constantly adjust it in order to get it to record right." (like tsilcyc)

I will forward the calibration info to the husband, but I'm thinking he may have it already.

Thanks!

had a similar problem with my cat eye, turns out the contacts on the back of the computer were dirty and would every now and then miss. moral of the story, make sure your contacts are clean too.

I went out one time and my computer kept registering exactly 24.4km/h.

Slow down, still, 24.4km/h. Speed up, 24.4km/h. Stop, 24.4km/h.

I turned the light I had on my bike from pulsing to constantly on... suddenly it dropped to 0km/h, and wouldn't move off of 0km/h!

Turned the light off and then it started working normally.

Sigh... stupid wireless. :)

I was assuming they were. I will check tonight. Thanks.

I seem to care more about getting the mileage in now, so it makes me crazy!

my opinion is as long as they sell wire ones i will always get them, i had a wireless one once and it was rubbish, i would be doing 30 and then it would say 99, 0, 10, 20, 30, it was all over the place.
It did measure temp which was cool.

Cat Eye has offered to replace the unit. The unit is twp years old. Husband shipped the bottom part of the unit yesterday.

I will try it again and revert possible in the future.

The problem now is that my heart monitor is doing it! One thing at a time.
