Irresponsible Ttriathletes and How Cool They Are
Yeah I book doctors appointments around long rides and bricks...gotta love it. I also do sit ups with my class when I don't have enough time for my abs at the gym in the morning. You are normal!
You mean besides checking trifuel at work all day, right?
I definately tailor my work schedule around training. Luckily, I have the freedom to do that (to an extent) at my job. I may abuse the privelege though
i have missed quite a few classes because i wanted to extend my bike ride or run. or the pool is only open at a certain time.
I consider myself very responsible, I always call in sick.

No kidding. Luckily they don't monitor internet(s) usage. I'm planning on taking as many fridays off as I can this spring for the tail of base season.

I do my best writing durring work hours, inbetween experiments that is.
I've been late on more than my share of bills and rent payments, yet I'm very confident that I'll be online with credit card in hand when registration opens up for my preferred Ironman. I've also missed my fair share of class or work in favor of training.
But how irresponsible are we really? I'd argue that, in moderation, blowing off a boring or unimportant class or using a sick day to do something that we love shows that our priorities might be just about right.
I definately tailor my life around training.
Luckily my boss at work understands if my lunch break goes long or if I get in a little late due to my workouts. My wife on the other hand...

Definitely not offended by it, but I'll keep knowing I could be training harder ;-)

Apparently I was training too hard. 2 triathletes, imo, rarely work out. I put the rarely in there for those of you who make it work so...

I can't remember that last time I took a sick day and was really sick! In fact, when I tell my supervisor I'm taking a "sick" day, after 19 years, she just says "Have a great time!"

This is funny because, today as I was home for lunch from work, I was thinking about my priorities in life. Training first no matter what, THEN work. I wondered if this was okay, and actually felt bad about it...and I come back here and see this post!! I love it! I don't feel alone! I have hardly any flexibility with work, but still manage to stuff my training in anywhere I can...maybe that's why the house has accumulated dustballs all over the place...
I think you can balance them all (work; home and family; fitness and sport)
They are reliant on each other.
But if I didn't have to work and only had to worry about my home and family, and fitness I think I might be a little less stressed and in better health.

I often have to sacrifice sleep and social time to go to bed when the kids do so that I can get up and train at 4...am

I'm a bad girlfriend. I just had to postpone a "run date" tonight because I decided I want to make it to the pool for my master's swim. And naturally the "run date" will be to my pace and specifications...not exactly fair but his schedule is so much more flexible than mine.

I traveled for work the last 2 days, took my bike and my cyclops trainer. While on the conference call I did Time Trial 2.0 with coach troy. Yesterday, I had a customer waiting for me to show up at 4:30 and I was late because I decided to take a run at 3:00 and i felt good so I ran an extra 20 minutes. Tommorrow, I am going to see a customer in Oklahoma and staying an extra night so I can get a good nights sleep and will travel back mid day on Friday. Effectively taking 2 days for a half day's work. I get to get a good nights sleep at the Hilton and my pre-race meals with the company credit card.
Is that so wrong?
Finishing the race is the only thing that validates the cause.

It is the weekend and we are not tied to the desk:) The long bike and long run with a swim take take the energy.. I have become the same way.

I got to thinking about this an realized I have a problem. The weather forecast for this weekend is supposed to be bad. I wanted to do some biking so I've decided to take a day off of work, drive about 300 miles to my parents place and train there for the weekend (always dry in eastern Montana). The hardest part, getting the time off of work which made me think, "wouldn't it be great if I didn't have to work." I'm hoping I'm not the only one. Any other irresponsible triathletes out there?
