If Stadler doesn't have a meltdown he might be in the running. He's looking very strong. Macca has a lot on his shoulders but will be pushing it too.

As for the women.. Wellington. By alot.

Weary is the path that does not challenge.

agreed with wellington by a lot

I'm rooting for Macca...to legitimize last years since Norman and others went down with the illness. Should be a lot of people with a shot here though.
Also would like to see Lieto in the lead late again...that'd be sweet

Awe that's right, I forgot about Potts. That guy is amazing at the 70.3 distance... I have high hopes for him!

Baring any unavoidable disasters, Wellington will repeat.

Its tough to say on the mens side. Stadler and Macca have kept quite this year but thats a race day explosion waiting to happen. I look for Stadler off the bike first to be followed by two of the better runners in the ironman distance, Macca and Beke, running him down. Im looking for Macca to repeat, strong training and racing this year and an interview I read with Macca in it says hes racing with a clear head and no demons this year.

Macca is looking strong, but I would like to see Chris Lieto move up and take it.
(tribro, make sure he is wearing some trifuel logos)
Chrissie Wellington looks stong too.

Nothing to it, but to do it

On the men's side:
I love Macca and as the champ, have to give him the nod.... but I think Alexander will give him a great run for his money...1st shot at Hawaii lost by only 4min and is a superb runner with lots of heart. I also like Potts...Obviously fast and since he missed the olympics, I think he'll be hunrgy...but my guess is he fades on the run.

Women:
Wellington.

I'm pulling for Torbjorn Sindballe.

I see a very hard-fought, three-way battle in the closest World Championship men's race ever. Macca, Sultan, and Stadler in that order. All have something to prove this year.

Wellington was a surprise winner last year, although a good performance from her should have shocked no one. The lack of real contenders in the women's race puts her in a position to repeat, barring a meltdown.

Is there any race that Chrissie hasn't won this year at either 140.6 or 70.3? Seriously, the woman is a machine. I'll take Chrissie on the Women's side and to make it more interesting, I think she will break the course record.

The men's side looks real tough this year. If all of the usual suspects show up to Kona and race this year, it will be a barn burner. I would like to see the championship come back to the US and in particular on the shoulders of Chris Leito, but if I had to lay money down right now I would go with Macca. I haven't heard much out of the Germans, which could be a scary thing in just under two weeks!!

If Sultan shows up with the patented bikini and the new compression socks, all bets are off!

He will not win, but Steve Larsen will possibly make it interesting. He will finish top 10. Macca will probably win and Wellington will dominate. Something about training with Brett Sutton.....

Men: I'll take Alexander, because nobody else has. I agree that the men's is going to be a great race this year. Stadler wins every other year.

Women: Can Wellington keep up her perfect record? Yes.

No kidding. Mr. Sutton, you apparently are a jedi master. How much does it cost to;
a) move to wherever he and his crew lives
b) get in on his training and win every race thereafter?

Sutton's company's premium training package is $600/month, but you don't live and train with them:

I may be horribly out of the loop but where will the race be broadcast? TV, Internet? Totally looking forward to watching both if possible. Couch and some beers just for the irony of it.:)

It probably won't be broadcast on TV live at all...more like a summary style broadcast that will come out a couple months later...pretty sad. I'd hope Ironman.com will have solid race-day coverage, but I don't know for sure

Alexander and Wellington - Gold
McCormack and Major - Silver
Llanos and Granger - Bronze

Some huge names out of the womens race: McGlone, Jones, Badmann (?)

Macca and Wellington, though I'm hoping Stadler either makes it interesting or just blows up again in dramatic fashion that's always fun.

ironmanlive.com should carry the race live on the net and NBC does 1-2 hour summary show sometime around December

I usually pull up ironmanlive.com and have it streaming all day if I'm around the house. Last year the weather was bad so I set up my laptop next to my bike trainer and rode for about 2hrs. Their coverage isn't always hugely exciting -- lots of just Paula N-F and Greg Welch talking, oftentimes with a microphone that is WAY too loud. They're great, don't get me wrong, but commentating an event for 18 hours (they start live before the race begins), you do run out of meaningful things to say so it does get a bit old. It'd be great if they had more cameras out on the road doing live coverage of the race. The NBC show is always far too short and filled with "feel good" stories, but they at least have good footage of cycling and running.

I don't know if he'll do it, but I'm really pulling for Beke. After watching him suffer through last year, walking about 16 miles of the marathon, but finishing. Those other guys would have folded. We've already seen Stadler pick up his bike and throw it, tears about to explode from his eyes. Beke just didn't quit b/c it was Ironman and he knew how important just finishing is. He said it best after the race, "Next year, no one will improve more places than me."
