This was the race that I DNF'ed last year, so finishing it was very important.

Race Packet: Two things of note here. #1 the race shirts were awesome and #2 in our race packet we got deodorant.

Pre-Race: I got up at about 4:00 and had breakfast. Two bagels and some juice. I got to the race about 5:00 and had plenty of time to set up. I did a 20 min warm up run followed by some stretching. I was able to keep myself calm by listening to music.

Swim (1500m 36:49)
The water was 81 degrees so no wetsuits. My wave was supposed to be last but then they put all the olympic distance women in a wave after mine. So I ended up swimming in a big group of people that were all going at different speeds. This caused a lot of collisions. I was expecting to be about 30 min in the water so I was not very happy with my time.

T1 (1:36)
Fastest T1 in my age group.

Bike (27.5 miles 1:32:49)
The bike was crowded because it was a 4 lap course. fortunately for most of it we had the whole road to ourselves. The work I did to get comfortable with fast turns payed off during this race. The only times I slowed down where at the 180 degree turn and when there were people riding next to me. I was happy that I didn't get passed by people on mountain bikes this time and I was able to pass some people. My time was alright but I pushed myself too hard.

T2 (2:01)
I had some issues reracking my bike because of how close together the bikes were.

"Run" (6.2 miles 1:15:04)
It was fairly warm during the run. Fortunately, I have been doing my workouts in the early afternoon so it was not too bad for me. I got muscle cramps in basically all of my leg muscles the first mile and ended up run-walking the run leg of the race. I used both of my fuel belt bottles on the first lap so I was stuck with the gatorade on the course for the second lap.

Total Time: 3:28:17

The night after the race I had ice cream for the first time in a few months. If you want to get a bunch of weird looks from people wear compression socks to Cold Stone.

I was the youngest person in the olympic distance race. My time was quite a bit slower than I wanted, however, I still had fun. If anyone was there watching I was wearing an orange trisuit and a blue headsweats.
