I have my first race on Saturday. I am going to swim tomorrow morning with the wetsuit on in the pool. When I have it on out of the water it feels as though I am sweating inside like crazy and that I could potentially overheat. It is hot and feels tight around the neck. I assume this feeling subsides in cool water or in water generally. Is this just a quesiton of getting used to being in the suit? I hope this thing feels more natural in the water. Of course this all maybe attributable to some neurotic Woody Allen style pre-race anxiety. Should I just drink a cold one and go to bed?

When I put my wetsuit on in my house I automatically start sweating. It won't be that way in open water as long as the water temp is reasonable. Once you get a little water in the suit you'll be fine. I've never swam in a wetsuit in a pool but would recommend trying to find an open water area to test your suit out. You don't need to get a hard workout in, just get use to the feel of open water with the suit on. Swimming in a pool and swimming in OW have two different feelings.

Oh, and definitely drink a cold one (glass of water) and go to bed, and then drink a cold beer (or 2 or 3 or 4) after the race!

Good luck!

It depends on the water temp, too. If it is wet-suit legal (but barely), you'll still get pretty hot. Get in the water before the race, sit down and pull the neck away and fill your suit with cool(er) water. It will help cool you off while you wait. And if it feels tight around your neck it will shred your skin during the swim. Be sure to put some BodyGlide on your neck.
