Instead of a race report I thought I would offer a season report. This is my first season of endurance events. I saw the 2007 Ironman world championship on TV, and thought I too would like to become an Ironman. I realize that it will take a few years to get there, so the first season I concentrated on sprint and Olympic distances. I began my cardio training for the season in January. Over the past 7 plus years my exercise initiatives have been weight lifting oriented with the occasional cardio session. I am in the 30 – 34 age group.

5/3 – 5k run 26:37 21/41 in age group;
5/26 – 200 meter swim/8.5 mile bike/ 2mile run 50:08 1/22 in age group;
6/15 – 2 mile run/10 mile bike/ 2 mile run 1:02:40 10/29 in age group;
6/28 – 350 yd swim/15.25 mile bike/3 mile run 1:21:14 5/24 in age group;
7/4 – 10k run 56:21 15/25 in age group;
7/13 – 1500 meter swim/ 42k bike /10k run 2:45:17 65/96 in age group
(Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon);
7/26 – 300 yd swim/ 16.5 mile bike/ 3 mile run 1:22:13 5/38 in age group;
9/6 – 400 yd swim/1.5 mile run/12 mile bike/ 1.5mil run 1:12:38 7/47 in age group;
9/14 – 27 mile bike/ 6 mile run 2:26:58 33/57 in age group
(Music City Triathlon, swim was cancelled due to high winds);

Over the season I lost over 20 pounds and feel so much healthier than I ever have. Next year my goal is to complete a half Ironman, but do a lot less races. The amount I did this year felt almost too much at the end.

I am already registered for Augusta 70.3 in late September of 2009. My wife and I have our first baby due any day now. I am hopeful that I will have enough time to train for Augusta after the initial lack of sleep and crazy schedule. I also have a lofty goal of completing a full marathon in April, but we will have to see if I can get enough training time for that.

i find i'm happiest with two or three events a year
it leaves time for other activities with the family

That is some solid advice from Tri-ac. I took a whole year off because I burned myself out. I was doing 6-7 races a year (Mostly small local races), and when it came time for my "A" race I was soooo done with racing that I slacked on training.
Keep up the awsome job and remember to have a good time.

Nice job in your first season and congrats on the weight loss. I have done 10 total tris in 3 seasons. 3 or 4 a summer is perfect for me. Best of luck with the baby.

Great job all around! Sounds pretty similar to my last year. I did a lot of events (about 9), then this year I did my first marathon in May, and I'll do my first HIM in Oct. I fell 5 pounds short of losing the 20 that you lost. Well done and good luck having just as much success next year.

I'm a little late here, but great work...I will also be doing Augusta 70.3, so maybe I'll see you there. Happy training
