I'm currently looking at the 08 Giant Trinity A1, but rarely do I see them mentioned as must haves. What is the basic difference between say a Trek, a felt, a scott and a Giant? Are they just made with weaker components, wheels etc? If I am serious about competing should I not get one? I also am looking at an 07 Trek Equinox 7...would that be the better bike, or the giant? sorry for the ramblings just wondering...

I don't know about the Tri Bikes, but I ride a Giant TCR1 retro'd with aero bars when needed. It has worked really well for me. Some reasons I bought it are: Good value for the money (comparitively), good reviews, decent reputation, and most importantly, fits like a glove. I think you get what you pay for. When comparing, you have to consider what strengths and weaknesses are important to you. They are all good companies with good reputations, IMHO :)

Working at a Tri Shop that carries Giant, Felt, Cervelo, Kuota up until two weeks ago I would say if your just starting that the Giant Trinity A1 is not a bad way to go as a first tri bike. It has a great entry price ($2000) and gives you DA Shifters, with an Ult. rear dereailer. If your concerned with 'must haves' spend the extra $500 and get a P2C Ultegra Build. Cervelos P2 has the reputation to back up what it claims as the absolute best bike for under 2500 bucks. As far as Giant goes, they make good looking bikes and the Trinity A1 is really as good as its going to get without breaking the bank at that price. Advice though, ride more then one bike and make sure that your going to like what you buy for a long time, these things become your best friends out there and no one likes to argue for 1-4 hours or more at a time. Happy hunting...make sure you post some pics when you get the new member of your family.

You can definitely do worse than the Giant Trinitys. Very solid bikes. They are relatively new, and Giants previous attempts at tri bikes were laughable, so I guess the Trinity has just kinda flown under the radar. In my own town, I have seen Giant's presence diminish big time, with two former dealers not stocking them any more, so I am sure that doesnt help.

well I went against all advice, my local bike shop had an 06-07 red Trek Equinox 9 that they had never sold, it happened to fit me, it was discounted and discounted again and they wanted $1250. I bought it, probably a huge mistake as I had done all my research on lower end bikes like Giant Quintana Roo etc. Didn't do any research took it for one ride and bought it. ... Does anyone know anything about this particular year model of Trek Equinox 9?????

I ride an E7. Same frame, different components. If the bike is sized right, it wont hold you back. I like my bike. The frame is one size too large for my tastes now, as I get lower and lower on the bike. I love passing $3-5k bikes with blingy race wheels. You didnt make a mistake at all. the new equinoxes are better looking and have more bling to them (intergrated aero seatposts, hydroformed alum frames) but there not any faster.

Have fun!

the shop said they had it listed originally at like 2200....I thought 1000 dollars off for a brand new bike, old but brand new wasn't a bad deal at all... I test rode it once, really liked it. Plus I was going to spend like 1700 dollars on a Giant, thought 1250 wasn't bad save so many to buy some wheels down the road.....I'll take pics and let you guys know what I Think later on.
