Advice on Shoulder Pain?
rest it. I crashed snowboarding for the first time ( big suprise ) and thought I tore my rotator cuff. I could barely even push open a door. Rest, rest, and more rest. Also seeking professional advice is always good.
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
I'd see a Dr., even though I hate doing it myself. You might have a fracture in your collarbone, who knows. Otherwise, the Dr. could prescibe the right PT to get you back into shape ... for me, ironically, I found swimming to be a great help when I messed up my shoulder.

What does a fracture feel like?
I hope I never find out, but PAIN, I imagine
Well, I broke my collar bone directly in two, so that hurt like a bugger initially. But, to be honest, it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would ... I really didn't think I broke it. I imagine a fracture that has no separation would be just a dull pain, with more pain when putting strain on the bone. Runners get stress fractures all the time -- and never really know it. But, I am really no Dr ... one would be more able to say, and of course do the x-ray to see for sure.
What does a fracture feel like?
Well...
1.Pain...shooting pain...sharp pain..."electry shock" type of pain.
2.Stiff...swollen afected area, very warm.
3.Lost of function, complete or partial. Lost or lack of strength of the afected limb.
4.Numbness or tingling or both.
5.Pain that irradiates far from the afected area.
6.Almost nothing more than a slight disconfort...or maybe nothing at all.
Just to name a few signs.
It would not hurt to sick some medical atention, some rehab, some local measures, like ice if is just a couple of days post injury...heat if is more than that.
But go for a doc´s check up that would tell you after a good exam and maybe a couple of films, what is really going on with your shoulder.
Remember my friend that sometimes shoulder injuries can become really nagging and stay there for a long time if they are not taking proper care.
I wish you the best and a speddy recovery.

+1 See the Dr.
I've been able to prevent shoulder pain from the swim by doing External Rotation exercises. But see the Dr. first so these exercises don't cause more harm.

See the doctor! It could be a thousand things, the shoulder area is really complex. My husband has had shoulder pain for ever, it got very severe about 10 days ago...and last Saturda night he ruptured a tendon and detached his biceps from his shoulder! Surgery to follow soon, as opposed to IM Florida that he was training for in seven weeks.
Point being, if pain is persisting, don't wait.

About 12 days ago I crashed on my mtb; I clipped a tree and I went over the bars and to the side, landed on my right side tearing up my knee, and while I usually catch myself on my forearms instead my shoulder took the brunt.
For the first two days it was painful in the shoulder to do the motion of putting a gallon of milk in the fridge. With this I though "pinched nerve", and it got better and went away after another day or so.
Now I am still feeling pain, (not shooting) in the catch of my freestyle swim stroke (front side of shoulder) and painful pressure when I do a pushup (back side of shoulder). This is lingering and not going away. Mostly I try not to upset it and ice it when I do.
Any thoughts?
