Gear for the Clydesdales...
I don't have much advise I can give you on wet suits, but for race wheels I recently bought a pair of Aerospoke's. I love them. They say that they are heavy, but I didn't notice the weight at all. And they advertise that they are bomb proof. I'm not sure as I have kind of babied them and don't ride around too many pot holes ect. A few weeks ago I posted a PR on the first race I did with them. And I think they look pretty cool.
Just my two pennies.
Cheers.
I am doing my first HIM (Clydesdale) in about a week and assuming that I like it, I will be in the market for some new gear.Does anyone have a suggestion for a wetsuit that would fit someone 6'7", 210 lbs.? My current wetsuit is my windsurfing wetsuit, which is designed for warmth not for swimming. To say it fits snug, would be putting it lightly. I am a little worried about trying to get it off in T1.
Careful that you don't exceed the maximum wetsuit thickness for the race you're doing. For the one I did it was something like 5mm. I'm not sure if they even really enforce it, but figured I'd mention it to save you some grief.
jono
I dont know about it since you are so tall, but i have a size L Zoot wetsuit and it fits me great at 6'4 220. probably will depend a lot on your torso length relative to you legs.
as for wheels, I ride a set of Ksyrium SLs and some Bontrager Race Aero wheels. Never had to true either set (except when i backed over my Ksyrium wheel with my truck) and they have about 2000 miles each on them. I dont baby them either, but i don't go hucking stairs or anything either.
I'm 6'3" and 215, and have a Zoot Tri suit, fits just fine, but I can't speak to their wet suits.
As for bikes, Specialized actually has stuff that is too big for me, you might want to look at their stuff.
I am the great Cornholio! I need TeePee for my bunghole. Don't make my bunghole angry!
Since you are openly soliciting opinions: I'm 6'5" 200 and my Orca suit is long enough in arms/legs, but can get snug in the chest, hence shortening my breath on the swim. For frame material I am moving in the direction of ti and think that 200+ is too big for carbon fiber reinforced plastic (just my opinion, don't flame me). Zipp makes a set of wheels for Clydesdales but they are in the $2,000 per set range. I've had good luck with Mavic Krys SL (like Pugsly) and have been respoked once in 10,000 miles.
nothing to add in terms of the info you are looking for... but welcome to Trifuel... and what half are you doing? :)
And that reminds me, make sure you are going with shoes appropriate for your size. 'Heavy weight trainers' with an emphasis on cushioning. You won't be prancing around in racing flats any time soon.
I am doing the Square Lake Long Course in Stillwater, MN which is a pretty small event (300 entries for the long) since its the same day as IMWI. It will be my first triathlon in about 8 years. I am hoping that proper training (finishing week 19), proper race day nutrition, and sheer determination will get me through it. I am a little worried about bike course (it's in the river bluffs, and supposedly a little hilly), but I am riding the course this weekend. I will post a RR and to let everyone know how it goes.
Have fun and good luck!
I've had good luck with Mavic Krys SL.
I'll add another plus for the Mavic's.

I'm 6-5 and have been 200+ not so long ago
Felt F75 (carbon fork, rear triangle & seatpost) [road bike w/ clipons], had shimano R500 wheels for 2.5 years and just replaced them with Mavic CXP21's with Ultegra hubs (not fancy but workable)
Orca wetsuit (long sleeves aren't exactly at my wrist but the fit is pretty darn good overall)
I've heard good things about Desoto's two piece wetsuit and also about ProMotion in Hood River, OR for custom fit without ridiculous prices
[edit] I see your race is in MN so maybe you're not near ProMotion, but check out their website and call them about sizing. They basically make all sorts of stuff to order and may even have returned items close to your size. I understand their customer service is quite good. [No, I don't work for them, but a lot of athletes here have that brand]
Best of luck!

Any suggestions for a new bike? Are there certain types of bike frames I need to stay away from? My roadie is an aluminum 63cm Cannondale R300 with a component upgrade, but it is super-stiff and can be downright painful to ride. Not to mention I can't seem to keep the wheels true for more than a week without hitting some sort of bump that knocks them all out of whack. (i.e. if I hit a railroad track, the frame is so stiff that the only place that it can flex is the wheelset)
