How long to taper for a 9 week training period?
What distance? A week taper would be adequate unless you're trying for long course. As volume decreases your intensity increases. Are you following a plan? There are plans on this site you could reference as well.

If Oly, one week is sufficient. Mon., Tues., Wed. workouts of race week, cut down the distance by about 50% but increase intensity. Thursday, Friday workouts cut down distance even more. For example, maybe only a :30 spin or 1500m track workout. Carb load 36 hours before the race (not the night before). Take off Saturday and race Sunday. Then recover one day for every hour raced.
Thanks for the advice!
to clarify, it's 0.5 mile swim, 20 mile bike, 5 mile run ... close to olympic but not quite. the race is on a saturday. ... sounds like 1 week is all i need. can i get by with only 1 swim, 1 run, 1 bike workout for that last week?

I have a triathlon coming up. I had 9 weeks to prepare and am in week 6 of training. I started out with moderate running fitness but started out basically from scratch in swimming and biking.
When should I start my taper? (when should I stop increasing duration and intensity)
How much should I decrease duration and intensity during my taper?
Thanks!
