HAHAHA well since I wasn't there that would have taken a while ;)
But um... I warmed up my wetsuit just fine in my last race -- but I'm not gonna help you with yours :)
Congrats on the race. I want to do the other version someday.

The Escape from the Rock is the low rent version of the Escape from Alcatraz. That said, you can sign up for it at the last minute and you can get to swim from Alcatraz which is pretty cool if you haven't done it. The event is a bit different in that it's a 1.5 mile swim, a 2.5 mile run to transition, a hilly 13 mile bike, and it ends with a killer 10k. Obviously the swim is the draw to this event but the 10k is a real test of strength.
The event takes you up to the Golden Gate and then takes you down to Baker Beach to slog in deep sand. After running around on the sand, losing your energey, you're challenged by the infamous "sand ladder"... 400 steps up the cliff in sand. It's tough!
I placed 4th in my age group, 29th overall and my splits are as follows:
Swim ---- 00:39:07.6
Run1 ---- 00:19:42.4
T1 ------- 00:01:30.3
Bike ----- 00:46:04.5
T2 ------- 00:00:51.1
Run ----- 00:39:30.1
Finish --- 02:26:46.0
It was a good day.
