Wetsuit and leaks and Shorts vs. Compression shorts under wetsuit
Wetsuits are just that ... wet. They are not intended to keep water out. In fact they are intended to trap a layer of water in ... that is were most of the insulating properties come from. The neckline, arm, and leg openings fit tightly so that they don't catch water and cause drag while you are swimming. For me the final step of putting on a wetsuit is to get in the water and "scoop" a bunch of water into the neck area. The water then moves down through the suit and makes it easy to make final adjustments.
Whatever you wear under your wetsuit will definitely get wet.
Additionally, the guy renting the suit suggested not wearing running shorts under the wetsuit but more like compression shorts and then changing into running/trishorts but again it sounds like everyone posting wears some form of short under the wetsuit.Thanks-
Trishorts are meant to be worn in the water, so you souldn't change into them, you'd wear them under your wetsuit.

Trishorts do fit like compression or bike shorts, and are fine under the wetsuit. Traditional running shorts might bunch up on you a bit.

Just rented a wetsuit (Neosport) for my first tri and noticed that water leaks into the wetsuit from the back toward the bottom of the zipper. I would have originally thougt this was normal but I have read so many post about people wearing their shirts and bike shorts under the wetsuits I am starting to think I just got a bad suit?? Should any water be able to get into the wetsuit or does it depend on the suit?
