If this was your budget for a Tri Bike what are you buying?

Gotta lose that head fat.

Something used for sure.

Pick a $2500 bike you like and that fits you, then start looking for a used one.

If it is your first tri bike, I'd buy new. Just about every maker puts out a entry-level bike in this range. The reason I say to buy new (if it is your first) is because it takes experience to buy a used bike. It takes time to know what components you like, what sizes you need, etc. But if this isn't your first road or tri bike, and if you know what you are looking at (ie, components, angles, groupos), then buy used with $1,500.

+1...and if you can wait until after the first of the year, then your LBS should be able to give you discounts on new frames from the previous year as well. That's my plan for this upcoming year, with a little higher price-point (I've been saving for this for a while).

My first tri bike was a Felt S32. I am still using it 2 years later. It's great as an entry level bike. Over time I have switched out the aero bars and bought a lighter pair of wheels. Since the theory is that 85% is the rider and 15% is the bike, I still need to work on the 85% more before I get a new bike. If you upgrade components over time and keep them in good shape, then you can always upgrade the frame later.

I got a QR Tequilo for about this price as an end of season close out. It's full DA, but like many Tri bikes under $2K the brake lever were el cheapo... upgraded them for $50 or so.

Trek E7, QR Tequilo, or Cervelo P2SL. Save a few mor bucks for these or buy used. $1400 used to get you the P2 or the Trek, but prices have gone up a bit. QR makes the Kilo, but i dont think its the deal that the Tequilo is.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Cervelo P2SL; buy it online for $1500. The bike is fast.
