Dog Names
Sorry to hear about Chloe. It's tough to lose a pet...they are part of the family,
German Shorthair Pointer?
Fritz
Hans
Eddie (as in Merckx)
Jens (as in Voigt)
Anton...ok,ok..had to give it a shot.
Blitz (Lightening...but you knew that )
Otto

The name Anton has some serious history in Germany, as I'm sure you are well aware of.
I like Blitz and Eddie. I will run those by my wife and daughter. The nice thing is that we have 4 weeks to decide.

Oooh so sorry but also congrats on the new family member.
No recommendations on a name from me, but perhaps one of the german tri boys?
Stark (German for strong)
I thought Merckx was Belgian?
I do like the other German names.
If he's going to be a frisbee dog, maybe you could use some ultimate frisbee-related terms. Off the top of my head I came up with Huck, Hammer, Callahan, or Scoober.
If you can't decide, sometimes it's best to meet the dog and have him or her around for a few days before you settle on a name.
Sorry to hear about your pug, they are such sweet dogs.
How about Blitzen? It's like Blitz, it meets the 2-syllable rule, and it means "Lightning". Plus, I once had a chinchilla named Blitzen, he was a fast little booger, too.

Wolfgang: obviously in the correct German pronunciation.
Stonewall is pretty obvious, but solid, option for a Civil War name.
A good endurance sport name might be Pheidippides, after the first marathoner in history; although it doesn't roll off the tongue real well.
Stonewall is NG for a dog...everyone will call him "Stoney."
Yeah, of course Merckx is Belgian but it's a "couldn't pass up "option for someone who like endurance sports.
Auf Deutsch: Blitz is lightning. Blitzen is plural or in English "lightenings" So get more than one and collectively you could have "Die Blitzen!"
And yes Garen...I know all about "Anton" in Germany.. I won't even pull the "But, I'm Austrian card!"
But there...it's just a name.
Liking Yoda too... fits the rule

Egon?
Milo?
Just can't think of any more two syllable German names!

Blitz got ko'd by my daughter and Hammer by my wife. Eddie still has a slight chance. This name game is doing wonders for my daughter. She is loving it. She wanted a female with the name Ellie Phent.

So sorry. We have four dogs and obsess over dog names. We currently have a Scout (to Kill a Mockingbird), Riley, Chewie (Chewbacca) and Bruin (bear in Sioux? Native indian for bear anyway, plus Bobby Orr is in his registered name). I love Fritz, nice german name. Yoda is my mom's dogs name, great one! We are going to name our next Doberman Obi as in Obi Wan Kenobi (I am a geek) cause Obi the Dobie is just fun. I also like Phoenix and Bart. More feminine one's might be Molly (don't know why, like it) or Trude (German, name of a Shepherd I train Schutzhund with).
Good luck and enjoy your crazy active dog! Great running buddy in the future!
Axel
Tempo
Flick
Sprocket
Brick
Aero
Internal cable housing :-P
I prefer names traditionally dog names, not people names given to dogs. Weird little quirky words. How about Quirk or Quark (Honey I shrunk the kids?). Aero sounds good too. Mine is Rex (pictured at left in his running outfit at my last tri).
SPEEDO!!!! I would die laughing if I heard my neighbors yelling that to get their dog.
Go for it!!

ooo. Garmin!
I like Tucker no matter what kind of dog, though.

i was running with my dog last night thinking about this too. and what would he be named if I did it all over again? kuma - japanese for little bear.
chase
axle
rocket
Don't be so easy on yourself 'cause this one might be all that you have left
First-so sorry to hear about Chloe.
Taking all of these quite awesome suggestions into account...
I think you've got to meet your new guy before you decide. One of those names or something totally different might fit him perfectly.
I hope we get a picture of him!

Chase is our # 1 choice as of last night. The first name everyone agrees on. Seems to fit a frisbee dog and it's the 1st name of my favorite baseball player.
I really like axle as well.
Thanks for all the condolensces and great ideas.

Not a German name but I know a guy who has a dog named Kenya. I think that' a super cool name for a running partner!
Set goals...... but be here now. Enjoy the ride to the finish line.

Sorry to hear about Chole! but Triac, you had all the time to type all these names... very impressive.. Though, I'm not sure I can add to any posted. I like Eddie or Blitz.
I see now that you proably pasted the list.
I know this one is weird, but I listen to a podcast with this couple who have a cat named iPod. They call him "ipod the cat". I think it's pretty hilarious, but ipod the dog doesn't sound quite as cool.
Also, what's you're last name? We had a weiner dog named Scooby Duke (our last name is Duke). That ones was Cap'n Mal's idea. Pretty awesome one too. There might be some funny names to go along with your last name. Just a thought.

My last name is Danyi, pronounced "day knee". Hungarian and unusual.

Such great ideas above - tough to add too much, but here are a few ideas off the beaten path:
Haybi (Just goes with Dayni) Haybi Dayni...
Aiko
Sidi
Mavic
Schraeder
Presta
Sprightly
+1 on Rex - I had a boxer named that as a kid
also - Friskee was the name of my airdale when I was a younger kid
Sorry to hear about Chloe. I lost both Rex and Friskee and know the loss.
To tri or not to tri - that's not a question at all!
King K
Hawi
Richter (for the CDNs)
I have a rescue Beagle named Oakley - that was his name when we adopted him.
There was an accident at the kennel where we were going to purchase our GSP. Unfortunately, 2 of the males were killed. We were last pick, so we lost out on that litter. My wife and I were not crazy about the parents of the second litter. We were given our deposit back.
The good news (everything seems to happen for a reason) is that we found 2 incredible Vizsla (Hungarian Pointer) pups from an outstanding breeder. After 2 days of research and talking ot various people we decided to go for a Vizsla instead of another GSP. If everything goes according to plan we will be bringing the puppy home tonight. I will try to post a pic in the next few days.
We have decided to go with : Attilla Utley Vida Danyi and call him Utley.
Attilla is the historical part, Utley is the sports connection, Vida means "life" in Hungarian and Danyi is our last name.
Thank you all for the great ideas. I read each post to my family.
On a side note to Anton, it turns out that I have an Anton in my family from generations ago in Szombatchely, Hungary from the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Cool name!
2 pics up in the photo section. Utley had a great 1st night and morning. He is a beauiful 14 week old boy. A little bigger than we thought we were going to go with, but everything felt perfect so he came home with us.

awwwww :)
TOO CUTE!!
sweet dog, and good choice. I have an 8 year Vizsla, Streatley. Awesome dogs for running, though he does injure himself often as he runs all over, under, and thru everything to chase the birds and chipmunks. but a true endurance companion, loves the water too, but I haven't been able to teach him to ride :)
Great new friend you have there. Congratulations on a good choice.
He should make you very fit, if you can keep up with him!

Obviously this post is not tri related, but I thought some of the creative people on Trifuel could give me some ideas.
To make a long story short, I have had a rough 2 weeks. My beautiful 8 year old female pug, Chloe, contracted a bacterial infection and died last Saturday. She was never sick before. She fought like a champ and almost had it beat twice before it got into her lungs and ended her life.
My family decided long ago that our next dog would be an active one. So on a happy note we just got back from putting a deposit down on a male German Shorthair Pointer and we need a great name. I am not a hunter so the obvious names are out. Besides being my running buddy, I am planning on training him to be a frisbee dog. I would love to come up with an endurance sport, historical, or just plane cool name.
The only two names we have come up with are:
Utley (I am a Chase Utley, 2nd baseman for the Phillies, fan)
JEB (Also a Civil War buff and JEB Stuart was a Confederate cavalry general)
Thanks for any ideas.
