What are your dream-events?
Most of mine aren't events, but it's my bucket list.
1 Get stuck in the mud in my Jeep
2 Hang glide
3 Scuba dive
4 Qualify for and run Boston marathon
5 Finish a 140.6
6 See the Northern Lights

Qualify for and Run the Boston Marathon

Weary is the path that does not challenge.
Well...I really have to think about this...
1)Complete IM under 12hrs
2)Complete HIM under 5hrs
3)Visit all 50 states
4)Do a tri in another country
5)Compete in some Ultra-event (haven't looked into them much yet)
6)Get to at least 6/7 of the continents at least 1x (only 2 so far)
And plenty of non-athletic, non-travel stuff that I probably wouldn't consider events as far as this goes, more like life experiences
My blog: http://jsktri.blogspot.com
1- Pacific Crest Trail through hike.
2- IM (2 actually, so i can set a PR)
3- make billions of dollars teaching.
4- trail run as many 14ers as is possible, hike the rest.
5- get my mom to do one tri. she's doing her first 5k on the 4th!
6- see the olympics
14ers?
14ers = 14,000 foot peaks
Don't be so easy on yourself 'cause this one might be all that you have left
Since it asked for dream events - qualifying for and completing Kona is the first one that comes to mind.
Then Boston.

It takes a long time to get good. - Scott Molina
Slow is smooth; smooth is fast. - Rich Strauss
(in no particular order)
1) Qualify and Run Boston
2) Qualify and Race Kona
3) Run a 50-miler
4) Do all of the IMs in North America before I'm 40 - I have 14 years :)
5) Break 1:25 in the Half Marathon

Oooo, thanks, that does look tempting.
I think I'm a pretty gung-ho person in general but mountaineering still scares me a little bit. Then again, I'm originally from Long Island where our tallest local peak is a whopping 100 feet above sea level.
In no particular order:
Bike across the US with my kids
Qualify for Kona (and pray for a cool year on the course, LOL!)
Climb Denali
Ironman Oregon! Would love to see my home state get this.
Scuba Diving in the Maldives
Hike the Pacific Crest Trail, border to border
Swim the English Channel
Climb Mt. Rainier - I've been weathered off of 3 climb attempts so far. One of these years I'll get up there.
And we're going to cross one off the list this fall: Tandem biking through Italy with the kids.

Oh... I'd also like to bag mnt Whitney.
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
1. complete my 1st 70.3 (this September)
2. qualify for and complete the 70.3 World Championships (I have zero desire to EVER run 26.2 miles, whether for a marathon or for an IM...I like to treat my run as the cool down that gets me to the finish line. :-) )
3. Bike tour of Tuscany and Umbria, Italy
4. Not hate the Boulder Peak bike course (I'm almost there!)
5. Complete an Xterra tri
Kona and Boston are longshots for me, so I focus on events where "just finish" carries some allure.
1. The antarctic marathon sounds fun.
2. My current dream/goal is to become a Worldloppet Gold Master. I figure it could take a couple decades. Step one will come next February, global warming permitting.
Kona, Boston, sub 1:25 half marathon...
see Angkor Wat, hike the AT, climb Mt. McKinley, go to Greece,
this oculd become a very long list ver easily!
1) Marathon
2) 70.3
3) 140.6
4) Race in another country
5) Get to all 50 states
6) Get to all 7 continents
7) Take a long leisurely tour of Europe
After I get to the point where I *can* take a long leisurely tour of Europe, I figure I'll have the time to hike the Appalachian Trail from one end to the other, but first things first...
My only lust after event was Alcatraz, which I got to do this year! Wooo!
So after that its all just icing on the cake.
Other things I wanna do-
Visit all the National Parks- 16 or so of em down, a bunch more to go.
Do an IM. Not a dream event, just to do one.
I've done a bunch of cool stuff, and will do lots more, but I dont really have a whole lot of "dream" things.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

no mountaineering necessary for 75% of them, in fact you can drive (or BIKE!!!!) to the top of some. i think driving is a load of bull, but if it gets more people to appreciate the mountains then i can deal. If you were interested, i'd suggest the sawatch range. amazing views from up there.
I figure when I am done with my Tri phase, I'll find something even more extreme so:
Everest

On my most recent trip to CO, we drive to the topmost parking lot of Mount Evans, and then hiked the 200 feet to the top, that counts, right? ;)
If thats not good enough, we hiked Mount Bierstadt.

That was fun.

It's not that I'm against hiking, I've actually done a bit here and there. (But my orienteering could use some work, I once spent a night camped out in what turned out to be an artillery range in Ireland) I'm more scared of climbing and repelling, I have zero experience there. Then again, at one time I was scared to death of running 26.2 miles, I suppose it's just something I'll do on a whim one day and perhaps get hooked.

Take a basic canyoneering tour/class in Zion, UT. It's well worth it.

{{{{{shudder}}}}}} I came close to going on Scott Fischer's 1996 expedition. But as Han Solo says, I had a bad feeling about it. I went home and told my hubby that Scott was a "walking dead man". By the next month I was pregnant and all thoughts of going were out of the question. In May I watched the events on the mountain sadly unfold.
Now that I've become a parent, I don't think Everest will ever be in my future. I just don't like the odds of 10% fatality rate.
But I have to admit, I still think it would be really cool. An older friend climbed it in the days before the mass ascents, and I always loved hearing his stories.

Hmm, that sound's like good advice to me. Haven you taken the course personally? I'm on the east coast so headed out to Utah is quite the adventure for me.

Go. Now. Well, maybe wait till September. A little hot right now. And do the big trip- Moab, Bryce Canyon, and Zion. We did the top down Narrows over- nighter hike. Mind blowing. Canyoneering is the shiznit. Great introduction to climbing and rappeling. I am looking forward so much to going back. Zion and Yellowstone are my two favorite parks by far. The longer caving trips in Carlsbad seem like they would be totally awesome, too. Have to head back for that.

1 Get stuck in the mud in my Jeep
Come for a summer time visit. We'll get ya stuck. Shoulda seen this one TJ in the store parking lot yesterday. Broken tow strap hanging off, side step bar banged up bad- missing the step. And you could barely tell it was supposed to be blue. Yeah, we'll get ya stuck.

I'll give the more heartfelt post later. But I do have to admit, my dream event just might be....

If someone tells me where and when, I'll be there. THAT would be a once in a lifetime event :-)
I can always think of things:
1)Live long to see my son marry
2)Complete IM before I'm 40 (I will do IMCDA '09 when I am 40!)
3)Put my heart in everything I do

I'd help organize it- I wouldn't be racing to watch all guys who wouldn't want to help.
Goals or dreams?
Dreams would be to do IM Monaco and Australia. Hopefully one day.
Goals for the next 2 years.....
IM Canada in sub 13 hours
First marathon (Portland, Or) sub 4 hours
Start placing within the top 3 in my age division within the next year.
Back to back century rides
Start placing in overall top 10(HIM) within the next 2-3 years
24hr Newton Triathlon
Eventually I'd like to be good enough to go pro....hoping in the next 2 years I can make the progression that is needed.

3) Swim the English Channel
4) Bike the Circumference of Ireland
5) Comrades
6) Badwater Ultra
7) Complete an IM
