Can anyone tell me if taking my Ironman Stealth wetsuit into a chlorinated pool will kill it? There aren't any free open water options for me right now.

I have taken my Blue 70 Helix into the chlorinated pool for a few times. Before races to check fit and check for chaffing, etc. The chorine will eventually eat through anything but the those treated suits. I am not sure about others but I get a some drag when pushing off on flip turns in the wetsuit.

I give mine a good rinsing at home afterwards. A few times shouldn't hurt it, but regular usage should be avoided. Training without a wetsuit will not hurt your technique, in fact I think it should improve it.

They also make a wet suit shampoo, but I have never used it before, so it might just be hype.

no it wont kill it as long as its not a daily occurrence. Just make sure you rinse it out right away with potable water and then let it try somewhere nice and dark before you use it again. If you want to swim in a pool frequently maybe try some wetsuit shampoo ( http://trisports.com/wetanddrysui.html ).

Thanks guys, I'll be taking out the lane lines and swimming in a big rectangle :)

When I stand around in the suit and rotate my arms I feel like I have enough mobility. But when I'm in the open water swimming continuously my arms get so tired that I don't have the energy to pick up the pace. In a regular pool I'll crank out thousands of yards with excellent endurance and speed, but I feel like such a slug in a wetsuit. I'm trying to figure out what's so different and practice in the suit.

re:I'm in the open water swimming continuously my arms get so tired...

Curious if you feel slow in your wetsuit or if you actually timed distances (though hard to do in ow)...

Two thoughts about being slow in your wetsuit... 1)body position - if you swim a lot and have good body position without a wetsuit, the suit will definitely lift your legs/chest up more and may change things for the worse (for me it actually helps), 2) maybe the full sleeve wetsuit restricts your shoulder a bit - consider trying/borrowing a sleeveless to compare...

-good luck
