Swimming Attire
If it is a wetsuit swim, then it is fine. If non-wetsuit, it depends on the top. Try it out and see how it feels. The neckline and pockets in some create some drag.

I've seen people go shirtless... Is this okay too?

That's my top
Generally it is better to go shirtless then slip the shirt on for the ride. Keep in mind that when you are wet and the shirt is dry, it is a real struggle to put on.
But only if not wearing a wetsuit...otherwise wear your top underneath & save precious time in transition, given it's a sprint.
I swim in my TYR tri top. There is absolutely no way you can put on a top in T1 and still expect to be competitive and have a 60 second transition time.
Just make sure it fits snugly. I dont like zippers, so mine doesn't have any.
if it is a tri top generally they are designed to be worn in the swim.
I wear my top and tri shorts under my wetsuit.

I've always thought that tri tops + bottom would be the same as a tri suit... meaning you'd use it for the swim along w/ the rest of the course.
Can someone chime in if its okay to use a tri top while swimming? It's just a sprint.
