There are two types
I ride motorcycles, too, and yes: It is not if but when. And I've heard the sticker on the odo trick is for roof racked bikes and to remind people not to do drive-thrus after rides. I would be That Guy that crushes his bike.
Yup... everyone does it. A buddy of mine did it with a kayak and poked a hole in his garage wall.

funny. but yes I've done it. Long trip back from mountain biking straight to meeting in SF and crushed it driving into underground parking. Ouch.
But also have friend who just crushed his driving OUT of his garage???? That one took the prize.
Wow, out of the garage??? That is truly classic.
"If one can stick to the training throughout many long years, that willpower is no longer a problem. It's Raining? That doesn't matter. I am tired? That's beside the point. It's simply just that I have to."

Coming out of the garage ... totally reminiscent of Chevy Chase's luggage in Nat'l Lampoon's Vacation. Last week, my wife asked me why I bought a rear mount for my hatchback when I have a completely functional roof rack. I told her that it was simple economics. Rear rack ... $100. Replace my bike after clotheslining it off the roof of my car ... $1500. That's like $1400 in the bank.
I actually put my bike stand in front of my garage door and put a little peice of paper like that in my car. A couple years back, i drove my QR caliente right into the garage. I don't think I have ever been that frustrated in my entire life!
Parking garage got me.....Wendy's drive through got the girlfriend.
Wow, I never realized that this was such a common problem!
I recently discovered that its not even difficult to fit my bike in the back of my Civic, which is a relatively small car. In fact, I've just been keeping it in the back so I can ride whenever I want, including if I'm away from home. Obviously this isn't an option if you frequently drive other people or have a Smart Car or something, but it has worked so well for me that I wonder why I ever bothered with a rack in the first place!
I use a roof rack...I'll admit it, but I'm super paranoid when I'm not on the highway taking alternate routes and looking out the window to make sure everything's alright. Probably not the safest way to go, but when the fiancee and I travel basically every weekend and often load the car with luggage of some sort, plus take her bike often times...I would never get any training if I didn't take my bike along on the roof. I had a trunk mounted rack before, but the shakiness of it made it no good, plus the fiancees bike almost fell off once so I feel like the roof rack is much more solid.
Plus I can find my car in parking lots easily now

So I have a sad story and a sad picture. Last year I was going for one of my last training rides for the local olympic triathlon in my area. My son was two months old. I had just bought a new kuota k-factor from an insurance settlement. The insurance settlement was from getting t-boned by a car on my old trek road bike two months earlier. The reason I mention my son is this: My normal routine 1. Back car out of garage, check 2. Load bike on roof rack, check 3. Put garage door opener in glove box and shut garage, partial check (i forgot to shut the garage) 4. Load son, dog, other equipment, check. So my wife realizes she forgot her purse so she runs in the house through the garage (see #3). As I was waiting in my subaru hatchback with no window tint I realize the july sun is roasting my two month old son's face. So I decide to get him in the shade by driving into the garage! You can see where this is going. Lets just say my son heard his first **$%%#%! come out of his fathers mouth. He also did not reach the shade that I was hoping for. Below are the sad pictures and memories of a two totaled bikes in a three month stretch. This hurt much more than getting t-boned by the car.
So I have a sad story and a sad picture.
That is SOOO tragic! I would've loved to hear that phone call though...
You: Hello Mr. Insurance Guy?
IG: Yes?
You: Remeber when I said I thought red was a bad color?
IG: Yes?
You: Guess what?

Holy cow! I'd be depressed if I did this type of thing to my 17 year old bike, I couldn't imagine what my reaction would be if I did it to a Cervelo, Felt....and so on. Ouch.
Good thing i sold it before anything happened! so did i just cut my odds of the inevitability of a 2 wheel crash in half?

I would've loved to hear that phone call though...
Lets just say my wife made the call because I was still convulsing and foaming at the mouth.

There are two types of people, those who have crashed their motorcycle and those who are going to crash their motorcycle. This also applies to cycling as well as those who carry their bikes on the roof rack.
I saw this photo and thought it was hysterical...
