Why I will never beat Macca...
My toes hurt just watching that.
I'll never beat him either. But it's logical to emulate him. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I try to mimic him when my legs are wasted. As my form degrades, I'll picture him passing by the other pros in Kona last fall. He's running tall, his head is on a frozen rope, and the turnover is smooth, even at mile 25. That usually helps me straighten myself up, and generally provides some relief to my legs. You can never fully understand the importance of form until you've beat the pavement for 2-3 hours on dead legs.
Crap, the last time I ran down a hill half that fast my knees hurt for a couple of weeks!

3:45 to the end has the payoff. That even sounded painful. If I tried that stunt I'd fall right on my face. Great commentary.
I run sooooo fast down hills, very similar to that I think. I have a long stride, a quick turnover and not many joint problems on the downhills so I always seem to pass people....but the transition back to the flats always leaves me hurting!
I won't beat Macca because he is an animal in every other aspect of the race too ;-)
That's what it is to be 25 years old and at the top of your game.
Remember Simon Whittaker at the first Olympic triathlon, the way he sprinted down the hill to the finish in the same fashion passing several other guys just like Macca did here. Fantastic finish.
Thx for sharing that video.

... because he's a freaking animal...

Having been on that course and knowing that hill, I would never let it all out for fear of hurting myself.
Oh yeah... let's not forget about that I suck. That's a good reason too. :)
