This is pretty interesting...

“Before the race, the dogs’ metabolic makeup is similar to humans. Then suddenly they throw a switch — we don’t know what it is yet — that reverses all of that. In a 24-hour period, they go back to the same type of metabolic baseline you see in resting subjects. But it’s while they are running 100 miles a day.”

The year they figure it out, there will be like 4 unknown scientists at the top of every endurance race in the world. The following year? sedentary folks getting off their couches to do SprintIronman's and the Anton's of the world will be logging their bike mileage in terms of Earth circumferences.

Only if said scientists simultaneously invent time travel. Still only so many hours in the day to ride continuous laps of the equator.

I find it odd that because this metobolic state is found in sled dogs that their is a confidence factor being applied that it somehow exists in humans and not other mammals. I guess if the scientist said that it may be unique to canines that the grants would stop and so would the free trip to Alaska.
