Prevent tearing earflaps on Giro Advantage helmet

Yea, I broke down and bought the Giro Advantage for my race (Cali 70.3). Nytro was discounting any one item 15% at the expo, so I practically HAD to ;)

Anyways, every one of their helmets on display and even some in the boxes already had little tears on the ear flaps from people trying it on. I know this is a pretty unavoidable problem with this particular helmet.

What I'm considering is putting a little dab of epoxy on the spot where it would tear to try to prevent it from starting. Does anyone have this helmet and have you tried anything like that? Any other ideas? I know I have to be extra careful with it, and I certainly am, but I want to keep it perfect if possible. I'm also thinking of lending it to friends because I would rather SOMEONE get use out of it than have it strictly hang on my wall, but that is asking for trouble.

Otherwise it's a pretty awesome helmet. I never really wore it before the race and it was perfectly comfortable, light, didn't overheat, and I do feel like it helped me. My wattage was actually lower than most of my training rides and my speeds higher.

I don't know if the epoxy would help or not, or if it's even a good idea.

My suggestion: when you put on the helmet, do not grab it by the bottoms of the earflaps and yank them wide. That just gives you more leverage to accidentally tear/break them. Instead, grab where the earflap meets the rest of the helmet and gently pull outwards just enough to get it on your head. Like everything else, practice before race day so you don't have to think about it.

Santa Claus bought one for me and I used it on my 1st tri this past Sat. I was amazed how comfortable it was. I've heard of folks having problems getting it on but I don't. Do you have a head like Shrek? Remember that "slow is smooth and smooth is fast." I have noticed that I have to put the helmet on 1st then my shades.
