So after swimming like 7 hours later or whenever I bend my head water just pours out of my nose. I never notice water in my nose while im swimming. I think this is the cause of my funny feeling in my head and feeling tired or dizzy. I am going to get a nose clip asap but im wondering does anyone else have this? Can the chlorine water in my nose cause a funny feeling in your head? My boyfriend freaked out when he saw the water pouring out of my nose and told me to stop swimming so much and care for my health more. And he told me it might cause brain damage or something because chlorine in the body is not good. What could happen if chlorine water is way up your nose for looong period of time?

thanks.

This happens to my boyfriend, too. We thought it was only him! He'll swim in the early am, then sometime during the day bend down to pick something up or whatever and the water comes gushing out. He doesn't get any funny/tired/dizzy feeling from it (aside from how odd it is to have water pouring out of his head), but we do swim in a saltwater pool, which may be friendlier than chlorine. One thing about it is that it's probably a lot less water than it feels like. You might try bending at the waist while you're drying off to see if you can get it to come out right after your swim rather than waiting for it to come out sometime later. Good luck!

yeah and i mean it is gushing out of my nose like a massive nose bleed only its just pure water. I know the water must have been way up in my head because it didnt come out until i bent over like 7 HOURS later. I keep having a funny feeling in my head like i cant focus and it only happens after swimming. i hope that a nose plug will help and i was hoping it wasnt harming me an way. glad im not the only one though lol. i didnt know they have salt water pools?

Brain damage? No. The worst that will happen is you burn your nasal and sinus cavities, where the water will be stored. The chemicals used in treating pool water are quite mild in the concentrations you find, and are mostly harmless. I'm not sure why you are feeling tired or dizzy.

LOL I've never heard of water pouring out of the nose before. Sometimes it will get stuck in my ears for an hour or two before draining, but never my nose... It sounds pretty harmless though.

As part of the therapy for acid reflux, I used to irrigate my nose. Later when I was sitting down and I let my head hang down, water would come pouring out of my nose. It gets trapped in the sinus cavities. After you are done swimming, try sitting and put your head between your knees.

The best way to tell if the water is the cause of the funny feeling is how did you feel after the water came out. After a little while, did you feel better, if this is the case, I would say you are pretty safe in assuming that is why you felt funny.

That is very odd. If it ever happened to me, I would try a Neti Pot to maybe flush it out. I have one from Walmart for like $5. It feels great. (Not an add you goobers)

This happens to me all the time. I just bend way over right after a swim and let it all drain out. When I do this, I never have leakage later on in the day. With everything else going on in the world, pool water up the nose won't be your demise. I bet the lightheaded feeling is simply due to a lack of oxygen during your swim. Do you have good breathing technique?

Happens to me all the time also. If the pool water/fresh water comes out, consider yourself lucky. Only saltwater will flush out of my nose and it is probably one of my favorite things about swimming. The trick is to not let it happen to you when you are somewhere that it would be inappropriate (in a meeting at work). About 30 to 60 minutes after a swim or surf in the ocean I go to the bathroom or somewhere secluded, hang my head, and wait for the floodgates to open.

Did any of you ever have sinusitis or anything similar?
I am asking because this 'water out of my nose after I swim' happens to me all the time - and I thought that everybody has it [and it just depends on the conditions you swim in]. But just the other day I went diving with a large group of friends and only me and another person had this afterwards. This person told me that it happens because she had sinusitis - and that I too probably had sinusitis but without knowing.
I searched the net but was unable to find any information - other than that there are only a few people with the same 'symptoms'.

Thanks

I have been a swimmer my whole life and not sure if i have experienced what you have. However i will pay attention to it in my next swim. However if you are recieving a lot of water up your nose here are a few tips when you are swimming. 1. Water up the nose means you are inhaling through your nose. That is typically how breathe out of water. To stop that practice humming when your head is in the water. Breath every other stroke to get used to it. 2.The dizzy feeling and sick feeling can be because you are horizontal for a long period of time and then you go right into a vertical position. Seems odd but an analogy is if you have ever run on a treadmill and step off you feel like you are still on it. Swimming horizontal and then going vertical is similar.
Hope this helps

Hey cool I am not alone. Yep I get this, I bend over and it's like a tap. My son still cracks up when he sees it. Get yourself to an alergy specialist. I reckon my issue comes from the fact that after working in a paint factory for a couple of summers, I had no lining left in my nose. I moved to the south of France where I am allergic to most everything. That makes my nose/sinus inflamed. everything in my head is on fire if I am not on my meds against the allergies, ears nose eyes and throat. I am pretty certain it's normal to take in water but the lack of membrane makes it just go up higher and harder to get out when I get out of the water.
It could also be related to head being down too low in the water when doing the crawl. but I haven't figured it out, just hunches. I have noticed since my form in the water got better it happens less. But I really thought it was just me.
