Hi,

I'm looking to build up a triathlon bike, and came across Leader Bike online. They have some seemingly nice triathlon/time trial frames for reasonable prices. Anyone heard of them or have any experience with this brand?

Thanks, Evan

I dont have one. I considered one- but look around- it's kind of like a 60- 40 buy. You probably wont have issues with it... but dont be surprised if you do. Wasnt worth the gamble, IMO. I saw one at my LBS being built up and the mechanics werent happy with it: The finishing was aweful, unfaced threads, etc.

Spend the $$ at an LBS. It might be a little more, but the warranty and service you will get are more than worth it. I also would never buy a TT bike sight unseen. The fit on a tris bike is a lot less forgiving than a roadie or MTB.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Thanks for the info and links. I've come across good and bad reviews, but for the price it may be worth the gamble. If I take the chance with it, I'll post a review about it. Thanks again

I don't know that much about the quality of Leader bikes, but I know they have had a few issues. Last years bikes were machined incorrectly to where the rear wheel cutout on the seat tube was not positioned correctly on the seat tube, and while it did not cause a structural problem, it does raise a question to the quality of their machine work.

On the other had, there are a few people on this forum as well as a few people I know and trust that ride Leader frames and have not had any issues with them.

Good luck with your shopping.

I'd be looking more at how they handle problems when they do come up. No matter what kind of bike you buy, you might have big problems, and the thing that matters is what the company's going to do for you to make it right.

I'd rather buy something that worked.

I've seen frame failures from every brand. You can never guarantee that your frame isn't going to have problems. If it does, your better off with a company that says "here's a new frame for free" than a company that says "T.S.".

If the question is whether or not the frames function properly, then I agree that you might want to look somewhere else. Also, if a large number of the frames are failing, then it's kind of a red flag. All I'm saying is there are no guarantees.

If it was me, I'd get something a few years old on craigslist. You can get some great deals if you buy used.

Thanks for the input. With all I've heard here, and what I've seen other places, it doesn't seem worth the risk. I'll shop around and see what else I come across. Thanks, Evan
