So I am looking for things for my mom I mean "santa" to get me for Christmas. I am in need of some new tri suites and I currently race in a two piece but i have been looking at the skinsuits. Are there any major advantages of having one vs a two piece? Are there better brands than others? Santa said i could get what i want, so i want to get something that is worth the money. Thanks!!!

When I had a one piece, the only thing I really liked better is the fact that the top could not ride up. I hate riding in the aero position knowing my crack is on full display for every racer and spectator to see.

What I didn't like is that when I had to go to the bathroom, it was really a pain if I wanted to go quickly but I didn't want to pee on myself. Also I am fairly tall and they don't make one pieces that are tall enough for me and by the end of the day, I was getting uncomfortable from the one piece not being long enough.

They have less drag if you're not swimming in a wetsuit. I think they're more comfortable, too.

My Squadra one used to fill with air on the bike once in a while if I was going close to 40 or so. I don't know if that was a sizing issue or not, though. I'm 6 ft and had a medium. I bought a small Zoot and didn't have that problem anymore, but I thought that the Zoot was ugly (the line where the "shorts" and "top" met was really high and looked goofy). Neither was a big enough problem for me to get rid of the suits intentionally (the asphalt took care of that for me!)

Generally, Speedo Fastskin is considered to be the best. It's definitely the fastest through the water (except maybe a speedsuit, which has built-in buoyancy....I know Zoot makes one, but I'm sure other companies do, too), but it doesn't have a chamois. A speedsuit is usually too hot to run and bike in in hot weather, though, which isn't a problem with other suits.

I guess they all have pros and cons, but any standard suit will be pretty similar and will probably keep you pretty happy.

Dan, have you found a suit that fits well on a tall person (I am 6'5"). I am pondering a suit over my two piece, and like you I do not enjoy giving a free show to everyone around me (they should have to pay to see this...). Finding clothing that fits a tall, not heavyset person has been my biggest struggle thus far.

I am relatively new to triathlon (just finished my second season) but I will offer my reasons for preferring a skinsuit to the two piece. Mostly I like not having a narrow elastic band around my waist. I like the fit better than the two piece as well. If you have got the right size, the suit does not give you a wedgie nor pull on your shoulders. I have purchase DeSoto and Pearl Izumi. I like DeSoto a lot and Pearl not so much. My local bike shop carries Louis Garneau, which will probably be the next season suit.

I am 5'9" and about 165, built more like a bull than a gazelle. Can't help you tall slender folks who probably weigh less than I do. :)

Well at least I am not alone having a problem finding tri clothes that fit. The other reason that I like to have a two-piece is that you can get an inseam that is long enough that I don't look like a complete dork. When you are 6'5", a 4" inseam looks a lot different than when you are 5'6". I would problably rather race in a one-piece if I could find one that has a long inseam and is long enough in the torso not to give me the ulitmate wedgie. In the meantime, I created my own "one-piece" by wearing a long sleaveless under armor shirt under my two-piece top. Good luck with your search durham.

Thanks for the input... i will have to keep looking around. I am sure that i won't have a problem finding one that fits because I am 5'4" 118 lbs :-) Any women out there have any pros/cons about a 1 piece vs two? In my two piece now i am limited to what shorts i wear because i like them low rise. It drives me nuts to have something high up on my waist...

Can't help on the one-piece. I have never really wanted to try one. I like being able to pee easily! Plus I don't see any advantage to it: I don't have issues with the 2 pieces I have, and I like being able to race in my tri club colors, or trifuel, or whatever just by changing out my top and going with shorts I know I like the fit of.

The waist of my PearlIzumi shorts (LOW RISE!!!) is perfect for me. I love them :) DeSoto also does some low rise ones which I like (when I don't want a leg gripper). Oh, or I wear performance bike ones that are so high waisted that pulled up they actually hit my sports bra (!!?!?!?) but I wear the top folded over and they feel like low rise ;)
