Ford Ironman Florida

When: November 1, 2008

Type: Ironman

Panama City Beach, FL
United States

Age Group Slots: 80

The swim takes place in the Gulf of Mexico. The water is warm enough for a comfortable swim, but cool enough to allow wetsuits -- every triathletes dream.

The flat and fast bike course offers a perfect opportunity for a big-time personal best. The run passes through one of America's most popular state parks.

Just as it is on the bike, the Ironman Florida run course is flat, and, in theory, fast. The run starts with a mile along the beachfront before winding its way through a series of residential neighborhoods. During this part of the course, the athletes enjoy almost non-stop support as people wait outside their houses to greet them.

I did this race in 2006 just for fun. In 2008, my goal is to shave 90 minutes off the 2006 time. It's doable, just need to keep in focus

chrisarend, good luck. 90 min sounds alot but you know the course already Keep posting often. I want to do it on 2009, 20 months from now, and all is about that.

I'll be volunteering and spectating while my husband competes. If I haven't already signed up for IMKY 2009, I might contemplate IMFL for next year.

JLV, let me tell you something. When I first signed up for Florida in 2006, I knew that it was a VERY popular race. So popular that I left church early (Sunday at 11:00 AM was when the on-line sign-up started) and logged on right at 11:00. I signed up and by 11:20, it was all over for anyone else to sign on. For this year's race, I logged onto the website in 2007, the next day after the race (just like before). For some strange reason, I decided to try and log on about 5 minutes before the official "start" of on-line registration. I got on-line and registered, and found out the race sold out by 2 MINUTES after the official time.

So, you must be fast Grasshopper, to snatch the IMFL pebble from the on-line webmaster (LOL). Another alternative is to physically come down the DAY of the race (November 1st) for on-site registration for 2009. On the day BEFORE the November 1, 2008 race (October 31st), IMFL 2009 registration is for the current 2008 competitors ONLY.

It's getting tougher to sign up for your favorite IM these days. Good luck. You can contact me at teamusamember@comcast.net for any other questions.

thank you, I guess I should try for IMKY since I live here. Don't want to take my chances and not get a spot.
